Hi guys im new on here so please be gentle lol
I recently aquired a mk3 2.0 8v Gti, in need of some serious mechanical tlc!!! Basically ive stripped the head and pistons out, getting the head skimmed, replacing the half shell big end bearings and piston rings for good measure! Im having a few problems though so im hoping someone will be able to answer these questions!
1 where the hell can i get the big end bearings from, looked everywhere!
2 Ditto with the piston rings!
3 What position is the dizzy in in tdc as its not exactly AGG friendly in the haynes manual
4 I stupidly snapped the breather attachment off the cam cover, any ideas where i can source this part from?
5 Lastly how much can i skim to increase compression without upsetting things too much, or infact will skimming loads off do anything for performance at all?
Cheers for all if any help guys!!!!

try GSF Eurocarfarts or best place will be VW them selfs! they will ask if they the ovver sized (dont know what that means, prob due to the wear?) i think skimming is max of 3mm but dont take my word for it. try ebay for the cam cover breather pipe not sure about the dizzy, but there was some post in garage section or mk3 section. sorry couldnt help anymore. hope that helps you, also how much is it costing you for rebuild?

I would leave the compression as near to standard.

skimming wount do much for an AGG
the 8v is very det limuted at low rpm anyway so it'll just make that worse, also it just puts the cam timeing out unless you get a vernier pully.
if you want more go tidy up the ports tri cut the valve seats and add a cam

Cheers guys!!!
To answer the first question, basically as cheap as poss!!! Basically getting the head skimmed for £30 by local firm, then its just the cost of replacement bit like bearings rings etc, not too expensive at all =)
