FFS what a cr@p start to the day..... thought I'd get up early and put the monza's back on and I can't get one of the locking wheel nuts off. I've been trying for ages but the key keeps slipping off the nut....
The key or maybe the bolt is possibly a bit distorted and tbo I probably overtightened a bit in the first place
Not sure what I can do now.... I shall have to take it down to a local tyre place to see what they can do now I guess.
I've got a feeling this could be costly.... THIS COULD BE MONZAS REVENGE !

Revenge of the Red Rear!
How annoying. Sorry to hear this. Hope they don't have to drill it out. You'll need new locking nuts then.
-
I had a similar problem with one of my locking wheel nuts, I took my car to Just Tyres in Crawley, they wedged a wheel brace between my wheel (still on the car) and a large metal post and applied large pole to the brace and after a couple of attempts they freed it.
May be worth trying this, although a bit scary getting the car close to the post.
-
Mustard, don't like the sound of that tbo (funnily enough I live in crawley as well).
-
MAW: Can VW help you? Maybe they'll take more care??
-
Took a chance with kwik-fit and the guys in there have managed to get it off with the pneumatic gun. What a star. Now there putting the monza's on (Dam the look good). Going in to vw next to buy some new locking wheel nuts.
-
Congratulations. You've been a busy bee cross pollenating!

This really is the day of 'monza's revenge' as there's a nail the guys discovered through one of the inter lagos wheel tyres. You have to laugh...

Or possibly Kwik Fits revenge. I always get a horrible feeling when in there. Don't trust those guys an inch.
Sorry to anyone on here that works for them but I've had numerous "dodgy dealings" with them.
-
You probably right to some degree but I've been standing next to the guy when his been swapping the wheels over and they have been as good as gold.
-
Well this little exercise cost £35 in the end to get the stuck wheel nut out and to swap the wheels over and re-balance.
However I also now need a new tyre for the interlagos wheels but that can wait for now. Gonna give the car a good clean now its a nice day out there.

I have had lots of problems with the nuts on the GTI. Glad to finally know it's not just my inadequacies .
I tried a wrench - wouldn't budge
I tried an impact driver - wouldn't budge :embarassed:
I tried an impact driver with a sledge hammer - wouldn't budge :undecided:
My local garage tried the buzz gun - wouldn't budge
In the end they tried a lubricant spray in between blasts of the buzz gun. It came off.
I suppose I feel assured now that no one has a chance of stealing my wheels

Bloody VW locking wheel nuts are a nightmare. I had one get completely stuck once and rounded off the internal pattern about an hour before someone was coming to buy the darn wheels. It ended up having to be removed by chiseling a slot into the bolt head and removing it like a giant screw.
-
I have a set of THESE (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Laser-3291-Locking-Wheel-Remover/dp/B0012MB360) which have worked successfully in the past.
The only ones it doesn't work with is the MCGard ones with the spinning outside shell.

^ good post that Mike

Yep don't worry PenguinGTI, its not just you...... I was stressed out yesterday when I couldn't get the nut off but the kwick-fit saved the day. I really didn't think they would be able to get it out as I had been trying for ages. If my neighbours had been watching they would have been laughing cause I was really giving it some trying to shift the bloody thing and when the key slipped I ended up fallling over on my drive way
Never again, a tyre specialists job I swap the alloys over... !

I bet MAW you are thinking of a third pair. Hilarious you having a toss whilst (un)screwing!
Penguin: Your post, as usual, was most descriptive and interesting.
