Got a bit of spare time so thought I'd upload pics of my recent door builds.
First thing first, tape up the area to be fiberglassed.
Then fiberglass the area.

Frame work to make the carcass.

Stretch over fleece. In this case a pair of long johns from my work.
Then fiberglass the fleece and add layers of matting to streghten. Also poured resin in the joins to add more strength.

Then sent it off to Oxford Car Audio so LEM could finish filling, sanding and wrap them in vinyl.
-
And voila.

Not on the car just yet. The audiosystems are pretty heavy along with the pods itself. I'd estimate an extra 15-20kgs of weight on the door card. Before they go on I'll fiberglass the back of the original door card to stiffen it up. May even add some 2-3mm ally sheet strips.
The components will be getting around 500wrms a side so should be nice and loud.

does the door shut ok? just looking at pic, looks like it might hit that tray at side of seat, or did you take that into consideration? might do something similar myself but only 2 speakers..
-
It doesn't hit the tray but.
Due to my retardedness it does catch the seat slightly. I will probably trim the seat back an inch. Just the outer lumbar support. Other than that it fits nice and snug.
-
Awesome ...
Whats the depth of the original speaker slot? I want to fit some speakers that are 84mm in depth would they fit? and how do I go about stopping rattling from mid bass?
-
When are you going to put pictures of the rest of your system I want to see if it looks as good as the doors lol
-
When it's done bud.
I've actually decided to redo the door builds.
So not sure what I'm going to do first.
I collected my 18inch sub last weekend. I'll get a pic up

Wot make sub is that ?????
-
Brand x BA 18. A mate of mine gets them.
Did have two 4,000w amps but had to sell one.
She'll be in the boot by mid to late sept.
-
i like that mate, looks mint. nice small sub lol, good work bud!
-
This build has been in the making for around 18months to 2years, across 3 cars with probably cost around £5-6,000.
From buying components to selling them before they've been fitted it will be nice to actually have some bass in the car.
The speaker pods will be up for sale probably mid oct when I've finished the knew ones.
-
What sort of numbers u looking to get with that bad boy sub and how much ££ was it if u don't mind me asking
-
I'm aiming for 150db below 40Hz.
The sub price is a bit odd as I know the guy who owns brand x but I had to pay a bit more in shipping as it wasn't a full order as I couldn't wait.
Think they'll be sub £1000 when he gets up and running.
-
Very nice sub ;) 18" is the way forward!
-
+1
-
What thaaa **** .... that sub is huuuuuuge ... props to you mate. That thing must weigh 50kg right? or more?
-
36kgs sub alone.
It is going to drop.
-
respect to ya mate, thats cool!
-
box design has been finalised and the guy building it says the box will weight 55kgs so thats a grand total of 91kgs in my boot. Oh i forgot about the false floor crap.
Plus 2 amps in rear 3/4 panels, and 2batts behind front seats44
36kgs sub
55kgs box
14kgs sub amp
10kgs full range amp
35kgs each batt x2 (to start)
19kgs each door x2 (additional)
223kgs extra weight and that doesn't include the cabling, or other wood and bits.
-
lol, thats some wieght u got there mate, good work!
-
Im guessing no need for lowering springs then?
-
ante u fitted all your system yet
-
Absolute mayhem.
Been moving house. Working twelve hour shifts, 6 days o 1 off, car broke down (coil £104 from vw).
I've got a tracking number for my mids and new amp. It's mental. 2x740wrms on the 8 mids (4 a side) & up to 300wrms on the tweeters. Run actively off the p88.
New door builds here we come.
-
get your finger out i cant wait to see this finished lol post some pics up wen u get the amp and mids
