i owned a mk3 and it was a freaking mess. 110k miles, full service history, and oil changed every 5,000 and i had nothing but problems. decent mpg's but thats all.
it was clumsy and sluggish. with the 2.0 i have expected more
the mk4 i test drove the other day have twice the miles and ran a whole lot smoother and sounded a might bit better  but it was a tdi

Lol so u got a bad mk3 doesnt mean there all like that and full service history means crap in fact most ones i see with that have more problems with The mk4 is amazing i will prob be buying a mk4 r32 as my 2nd car when my mk3 dies if the wife will let me lol But i love the mk3 mines 16 yrs old and immaculate never had a problem and shes not sluggish and of course there will be a dif between a mk4 and a mk3  there newer and more powerfull lol

full service through vw from vw and i can still to this day call them and they can look it up. but have you own opinion on this i had a horrible experience with my mk3 and will never buy another

A full service history doesnt mean engine wont be f**ked inside doesnt mean holes wont appear lol and with age a car will lose power its just what happens sorry u diddnt have a good experience But the people that take there time to make a mk3 amazing its beautifull and a few folks mk'3s would make the mk4 eat dust lol im just messing dude i like the mk4 2 but i got my mk3 for virtually nothing but have spent a fair few on it prob should have just boiught the r32 but had to buy the misus her audi even though its bloody mine lol

Welcome fellow Celt.

Pity about the MK3..the sea must be rough up North.  Do you carry life jackets in ya boot, along with the Irn Bru?
