Post by: simonpolly on 26 August 2010, 20:31
I have just had my first service, when checking the oil i noticed that the coolant level has been filled about 1.5" above the Max level, does this matter ??. :undecided:

Was that with the engine still hot? Worth checking again when the coolant is back to ambient temperature.

1.5" over Max level should still leave sufficient room for expansion with a hot engine. You could always syphon some of the excess coolant if you feel confident to try - just don't swallow! Naughty of the workshop to overfill though.

Such a simple thing to get wrong. Wonder what else they did or did not do. Do you think they changed the oil/filter? Hmmm...

Yes i was thinking of syphoning abit out. i notice there is a expansion/overflow tube on the header tank so i assume any extra will flow out if it becomes a problem. It does not fill you with confidence about the quality of their work if they can not even top up the coolant level correctly,it was fine when it went in and did not need topping up.

Just what i was thinking, the service at my local dealer has really gone down hill in the last year or so.

I think you should go back and request them to remedy this. You may also try and suggest that you have very little confidence that they carried out the service correctly. So annoying and such a waste of time and energy.
