Hi, New to the water cooled scene....
Where is the timing mark on the DX engine and what is the std setting?
Plug 1 to the left or right as you look at the engine?

Plug 1 is to the right and the timing marks should be on the flywheel inside the inspection hatch.

plug 1 is on the left, though I guess it depends which way you're looking at it ;)
either way, its the timing belt end :)
there should be a punch mark on the back of the cam belt sprocket, this needs to line up with the top of the head surface once the rocker cover is removed. If you're lucky its late enough to have the plastic belt covers, in this case there is an OT mark on the outside which lines up with an arrow on the inside of the half moon part of the upper cover once the outer bit is removed.
Ignore the intermediate shaft marks, just make sure you line up the dizzy so the rotor arm is roughly pointing at the thin notch on the outside of the dizzy housing (not the big square cutout that lines up the cap)
bottom end there is an arrow on the lower timing belt cover that lines up to a notch on the crank pulley, but as above try to use the flywheel mark if you can as much more accurate. you'll need to use these to do the ign timing anyway! either way, shine a torch down spark hole #1 to physically check piston 1 is at the top of the bore.
There are (should be!) 2 marks on the flywheel, a small punch mark which is TDC, used to setup the belt timing. then there is a larger diamond mark near it which is used to set the ignition timing with a timing light. Once belt timing is all set to TDC, fire the engine and let it warm up. Then disconnect & plug the vac line to the dizzy, and shine the timing light into the flywheel inspection hole. adjust dizzy till the diamond lines up. This is what you are looking for, note the big white/green plastic bung needs to be unscrewed so you can see the marks:
