Fitted My Golf R Lights (Thanks Steve) and they are working great! Done the VAGCOM thingy and set code to 100 to remove the warning light I had which was fine but now my sidelights dont work  my drls are now my sidelights  anyone else had this problem? Not sure if I changed something on the drop dowm menu when changing byte 18 to "100" to "Rest Of The World" so maybe thats it?
Kenny

That's right. Same as mine. This is the case with Golfs delivered 2010. Steve is working on a solution.
-
Damm, was hoping there was a fix. DRLs are
-
Kenny: In auto DRLs off. The rest is fine. All other functions as before. I feel it is a minor issue. There will be a solution. Trust Steve.
-
I set my code as 0x15 or 00010101 which has everything working correctly.
I think Steve already tried that on am1w's car without success, mine is 2010 car.
-

I don't think I have this problem. Is it an issue with xenons only (or maybe RHD cars only..?)

No my car has xenons and my lights have been fine after adding the rear LEDs.
-
The problem is for cars with front Halogens and build dates in 2010. Not a problem with Xenons.
-
It's amazing really how VW have built in such different electrical tolerances towards the rear lights over the space of just over 12 months or so.
You've got earlier 2009 cars like mine which have the permanent fog light bulb out warning light (easily overcome I guess by wiring in a filament bulb to the connecting harness loom thingy?) morphing into some 2010 cars losing the side lights (despite the LEDs being an option in some markets) and yet 2011 models have the LEDs as standard, thus there are at least 3 different control modules within 18 months.
Talk about continuous development......the VW techies must be on speed.
-
Kenny, just wondering if you got this sorted.
My car is the same as yours, Halogen lights. delivered 2010.
I was changing some other things today so thought I would try the 04 setting.
Did the same as yours, DRL's seem to be used as side lights and the side lights were on but extremely dim.
Set the code back to 0x15 and everything is working again as normal.
-
Mike, what part number is your central convenience controller?
I was doing some work on a BW22+ 2010 car yesterday which is factory fitted with LED's and the coding was set the same as the default on the pre-LED cars (i.e. 00) The CCM on this car was a revision H. :undecided:
-
Is this the number you are looking for
Part No SW: 1K0 937 086 C
-
Yep, so the BW22+ cars do have a much later controller.
-
I set my code as 0x15 or 000101001 which has everything working correctly.
Hey Mike,
Posting for a friend that has the same problem in a >week 45 2009 car.
You have specified the binary for 0x15 as "000101001", however that's a nine-character string and actually equals decimal 41. Is this a typo with an extra zero in it?
0x15 is decimal 21 and binary 00010101.
Can you please advise.
Thanks,
-
Yea you are right, not sure what I was thinking
0x15 or 00010101 as you have stated.

Thanks for the quick response.

Thanks for the quick response.
I was chatting to a VW Tech mate of mine, and it looks like fitting the 2011MY CCM is the answer...any new GTI with Xenons will bring my sidelights back...I have 'only' got 2 3/4 years to fix it before it fails it's first MOT!
Anyone know what the latest revision is...ands cost?
-
A car has to be legal to drive before every journey, not just at MOT time.

Thank you kindly for stating the bleedin' obvious.
Here I was thinking of spending a few hundered quid for no reason...now I know why I was thinking of changing the CCM.
With a Golf with factory Xenons, you are unlikely ever to be spotted as having no sidelights as the Xenons are always on...but since it's not legal, I want it sorting. It will, however, get picked up at the first MOT.

Depending what garage you take your car too
-
Ess_Three I have created the table below from info I got on a German forum
According to them 0x44 is the coding for a Xenon equipped car with LED rears.
I was going to give this a go on countrytruckers car the next time he called up but haven't had a chance yet.
Maybe worth a go although the version of the CCM does seem to have different effects.
VW360 GTI Halogen "VW360 RdW TFL_0_LED + LED_SBBR" Hex 04 Binary 0000 0100

Perhaps so...but the fact is, it's illegal.
Whereas a car will pass an MOT with retro-fitted Xenons despite not having headlight washers/auto levelling (so long as the headlights are projector type and the beam pattern OK), it will not pass with no sidelights, or a cat removed.
Of course there are some dodgy MOT stations out there...

Mike,
Is this the same long code as I changed the bit previously - the one suggested by Steve in his instructions?
I'll go have a play now if so.
Cheers,
Glen.
-
Yes Glen, BYTE 18 in the Central Electric Controller.
If it has no effect then you can just put it back to your previous setting
I had tried all combinations to see if I could get the inners to come on with the brakes but no success
Setting this Byte to 0x15 worked for me but I have Halogens, 0x04 had strange results with the side lights.
One thing I have noticed is that when you write to the CEC it sets your coming home/leaving home/autolocks/mirror adjust etc to default values.
It's just a matter of going into the MFD and setting them back to your preferred values.
-
Right...just been for a play:
I *think* this is my original coding - I had 00 > 04 written down for Byte 18 anyway:
40180A3ED827F1C0448800846400892443550088736D8D60648000200000
Standard Xenon coding - I think!
Off - Xenons as DRLs, no rear lights on.
Auto - Xenons as DRLs, no rear lights on.
Sidelights - sidelights on, no Xenons, inner and outer standard rears.
On - sidelights + Xenons on, inner + outer standard rears, foglight OK, brake lights OK, no bulb warning.
Then:
Byte 18 > 04
40180A3ED827F1C0448800846400892443550488736D8D60648000200000
Off - Xenons as DRLs, no rear lights on.
Auto - Xenons as DRLs, no rear lights on.
Sidelights - no sidelights, no Xenons, inner and outer LED rears.
On - Xenons on, no sidelights, inner and outer LED rears, foglight OK, brake lights OK, no bulb warning.
I ran this for months...but with no sidelights or parking lights.
Tried:
Byte 18 > 68
40180A3ED827F1C0448800846400892443556888736D8D60648000200000
Off - Xenons as DRLs, no rear lights on.
Auto - Xenons as DRLs, no rear lights on.
Sidelights - no sidelights, no Xenons, inner rear LED lights only.
On - Xenons on, no sidelights, inner LED rears only. No bulb warning.
Tried:
Byte 18 > 21
40180A3ED827F1C0448800846400892443552188736D8D60648000200000
Off - Xenons as DRLs, no rear lights on.
Auto - Xenons as DRLs, no rear lights on.
Sidelights - no sidelights, no Xenons, inner and outer LED rears and rear foglight on.
On - Xenons on, no sidelights, inner and outer LED rears and rear foglight on. No bulb warning.
Unable to turn off Foglight.
Tried:
Byte 18 > 15 - not sure why...had '15' written down...maybe Steve suggested 15 earlier on?
40180A3ED827F1C0448800846400892443551588736D8D60648000200000
Off - Xenons as DRLs, no rear lights on.
Auto - Xenons as DRLs, no rear lights on.
Sidelights - sidelights back working, no rears, no Xenons.
On - sidelights + Xenons, inner + outer LED rears, foglight OK, brake lights OK, no bulb warning.
I've left Byte 18 set to '15' and wil see if I get the bulb warning up.
I'm not sure my parking lights work though...but that could be operator error!

Glen, it was maybe a bit confusing from the table, the number to put in the byte is 04, 15 or 44, the hex numbers.
44 should be correct if my info is right for the Xenons, not 68 which is what I think you tried

Ahh...
My version of VCDS won't let me change anything using the long coding helper - not sure if any will? So I'm just cut/pasting the long code with a change of value, hence my trying 68 (and a lack of undewrstanding of Hex)...I'll try 44.
My laptop is mid sync just now...but I'll try it as soon as it's finished and let you know.

Mike,
44 is no good.
40180A3ED827F1C0448800846400892443554488736D8D60648000200000
Off - Xenons as DRLs, no rear lights on.
Auto - Xenons as DRLs, no rear lights on.
Sidelights - sidelights back working, inner and outer LED rears, no Xenons.
On - sidelights + Xenons, inner + outer LED rears, foglight OK, brake lights did not appear to work (relying on reflections to check)
Bulb warning up on dash.
I couldn't see the brake lights coming on, whereas I could with '15'.
Bulb warning straight up...set back to '15' and all is well again...no bulb warning, all lights work as they should (Xenons as DRLs, sidelights, dip & main Xenons, all indicators, foglight, reversing light, brake lights..and no bulb warning.
I've left Byte 18 set to '15' and will try it for a while.
How do you get the parking lights to come on?
I can't seem to get them to work...but may be trying it wrong.
Is it indicator left down before ignition goes off?
-
Just checked again...everything bar the 'Auto' function when the light drops....I'll check that later on...but it's never not worked before so I expect it'll be OK.
Byte 18 set to '15' works for me for factory Xenons and R LED rears.
All lights work as they should, parking lights do work, brake lights, both inner and outer rear LEDs on with sidelights/on, Xenons as they should be, sidelights as they should be, indicators all fine, foglight & reversing light both working fine.
I'm sure I tried '15' when I first fitted the rear LEDs...but obviously not.
It appears mine is the opposite of what's suggested here for 15/44.

The codes from Germany as a guess may only work on LHD versions
Heres a scan of P3eps CE unit on his R it maybe some use or may not. :undecided:

40180A3ED827F1C0448800846400892443551588736D8D60648000200000
Since VCDS doesn't tell you what Byte does what...they are too different to grab any best guess data from.
Pete's Byte 18 data is 00...mine was...and is now 15. With 00 set on my GTI, I had a bulb warning up.
Too many of the other Bytes differ though.
For GTIs with factory Xenons and LED rears, Byte 18 set to 15 seems to work.
-
Thanks for trying it Glen,
So it looks like 15 works for both our cars, Halogen and Xenon
The 00 seems to leave the settings as they were, so looks like the factory sets the byte up and the controller stores the value somewhere else, possibly NVRAM, and then they set the byte back to 00.
SteveP checked a car earlier this week with factory LED's and it was 00 as well.

Good stuff Kenny!
Maybe we need to cut the bones out of this post and get it made a sticky?
Or at least get Steve to add it to his instructions?
-
Great to see everyone sorted
I had PM'd SteveP before after 15 had worked for me and I think he was going to update his install instructions.
I wonder have we all got the same version of CEC and is that why it works, I think mine is version 'C' but the new cars are version 'H'

Mine is a 'D': 1K0 937 087 D
Same as P3eps...not surprising as our cars were delivered within days of each other.

Hey mate, Are you sorted with this? I got my LED's direct from a German VW dealer and the coding instructions that came with it suggested that >week 45 2009 Xenon headlight coding should be byte 18 to 43. I have not verified it works. My mates GTI 2010 with Halogens has been recoded from 04 to 15 as his DRLs were not functioning and sidelights very dim. He followed the VW dealers coding and all is fine.
Maybe worth a try?

Yes, all sorted.
Byte 18 > 15 worked for me, despite having factory Xenons.
