Title: ORDERING NEW MK6 TOMORROW
Post by: WHITEY20 on 23 August 2010, 18:43
I'm hopefully ordering 2.0 tsi dsg 5dr,candy white,18" monzas,RCD 510,Dynaudio,assist + cam, flat tyre indicator, winter pack, xenon headlights, jacara cloth  in the morning(pending p/x and vw solutions deal) Wasn't sure about leather..electric seats were appealing though! VW priced fixed but dealler still unsure about new VAT rate...will VW honour existing rate on an early order?
DAB ariel? why doesn't it work with rear cam? Is RNS510 digital? (thinkg of replacing after).

Any views? :undecided:

Get Shadow Blue (the best colour by far IMO) + Luxury Pack + ACC (my favourite option) in addition to above. Ditch the flat tyre indicator. I hear it needs re-setting by VW after you have a flat. Cloth is excellent, the 'leather' is only part-leather.

The rear cam does not give you a clear view of the nearside kerb when parking. Also folding mirrors help from them being knocked and broken off by other cars. They cost a fortune to replace. Ditch the cam and get the Luxury Pack or get them both.

Oh and regarding Park Assist. Learn to park!

Oh and also... get (a) RCD510+DAB+Dynaudio and then get a TomTom. (Ugh!). Or (b) Get the standard RCD310 with standard speakers and then upgrade to RNS510. No DAB unfortunately and no Dynaudio. Expensive to retro-fit the latter. Or (c) Order RNS510+Dynaudio from factory and pay a fortune!

I went for (b) 'cause I'm a cheapskate!

Also, don't forget the VW Premium Bluetooth preperation. Brilliant.

But in all cases you will need a sub-woofer to improve the sound.

Glad I might have helped a bit and confused you a bit more!

Yes, and Luxury Pack is only £125. Well worth it.

WHITEY20: See how beautiful Shadow Blue is:

I'm not a fan at all.  It looks ok in certain lights when the metallic sparkles in the sun... but in my neck of the woods we only get sun for about 1/10th of the year if we're lucky!
The rest of the time it just looks pretty dull.
Its similar to the colour of my fiancee's BMW - which has the same characteristics.  Nice in the sun, and dull 9/10ths of the time!

I opted for the RCD510 / Dynaudio / Reverse Cam upgrade, then swapped for an RDS510 on day 1.
If you want the Reverse Cam then you need to take the RCD / RNS510 for obvious reasons that the 310 doesn't have a screen!  Its the best £155 (I think thats what it cost??!) I've spent - and gets the thumbs up from all my passengers - especially when they see the VW badge flip back.

Sorry p3eps, but I entirely disagree with you. I feel you are wrong.

Shadow Blue looks amazing in the dark as well as in sunlight and it is an unusually unommon colour unlike  silver, all greys and now to some extent white and red.

IMO the most insipid colour is silver (the default choice) especially on a Golf.

Each to their own.

Apologies to all of you with silver cars but this is MO.

PS: As I've never owned a silver car, I will go for this next time. It will be a new colour for me .

I agree with p3eps. I had a Mazda in a very similar colour and found it a very difficult colour to keep looking as good as that in all lights. But then in all fairness it probably depends on how well you keep it detailed.

As others have said, it's a great spec.

Nobody has mentioned the storage pack, for £70, I think it's really good value. You get under seat drawers as well as luggage nets under the parcel shelf but the drawers are a boon. They're very discreet and about the size of a shoe box, maybe 20% lower. It's easy to tuck in a 230v power inverter or sat nav and they're rated to 20kg although I think you'd have to pour concrete in to reach that sort of weight! The arm rest stow away is a design wonderment, I think you can store a pen in there and maybe a pack of chewing gum if you're lucky so the drawers actually compensate for the lack of storage in the centre column.

The parking camera is fun, don't get me wrong but I live in London and having a kerb side mirror that automatically drops when I reverse in (99% of the time) is far more valuable as a tool when paired with parking sensors and it's a lot more cost effective.

Regarding your VAT issue, HMRC recognise VAT under 'time of supply'. I won't bore everyone with tax concepts but there are guidance notes for businesses available on HMRC [http://bit.ly/bpkWDJ] and that should clarify your position regarding paying that extra 2.5%.

Hope this helps and don't forget to post pictures when it arrives.

AGB you are so right about the storge pack and the lack of storage in the centre arm rest. There are 3 things I wish I had ordered from new (in order of merit): Storage pack, Bi-Xenons and Hill-hold.

Apart from these, I am happy with my car specification but sad about my wonkey rear bumper.

As you say - each to their own.  Personally I feel shadow blue looks dull - and on the above car with the tiny 17" wheels just looks plain dreadful.
I took silver specifically for it being the default choice so that it blends in.  Plain and boring and easy to keep clean.  Having said that, It really suits the car. Probably half the cars on the road just now are silver!!
Title: Re: ORDERING NEW MK6 TOMORROW
Post by: am1w on 24 August 2010, 07:03
At least 50% I would say p3eps. Roads need a bit more colour, though blue would not help.
Nice thing about silver is that you don't draw undue attention. With Red and White you are a beacon for the vandals and the boys in blue!
I wish VW silver was bright like Mercedes Silver.

You won't be able to see how near your wheels are to the kerb in the rear view cam, the dipping mirror is great for this and adjustable to your personal requirement.

To the OP, I think the rear camera would be the first option I would look for in a car in future. Its amazing how much I miss it when I'm driving the wife's car.

Good luck with the solutions quote as VW offered me a terrible rate on that

If it was losing that much per month you would be better off trading the car in now and buying something for a couple of hundred pounds to do you until your new car arrives.

If it hinges on a sale or non sale then they might just be persuaded to take the trade in a few months in advance

Evo: Can I ask, is there an optimum time for trading in a car that is on a 3 year solutions deal? I'd imagine the dealer will make the most cash if you wait the 3 years but is there a good point for the customer to trade in?

I'm coming up for a years ownership and with the GTI/GTD taking anything up to 6 months to arrive, I'm not quite sure when is the best time to think about a new one!!

SORRY Whitey20 for going off topic but it might help you with your solutions deal in the future.
Title: Re: ORDERING NEW MK6 TOMORROW
Post by: evo1986 on 25 August 2010, 21:29
In reality there is not usually any time in particular that is better to tradein, its worth what its worth when ever that is. Certainly with a pcp unless you put down a large deposit you will be in negative equity till your agreement comes to an end, I know that valuing a car at the moment is a bit unfair on customers as all we will do is say right it dropped £400 last month ok lets multiply that by 6. When it usually doesnt work like that in reality as some months it wont go down and it might go up a few hundred quid. Best to leave it out the deal until the end really as you always have the option to hand it back anyway. Dealers will always crave after 3/4 year old decent privatley owned cars. Especially if it has been freshly serviced at the end of the PCP : ) Then at that point its all about desirability of the car you bought initially, certainly any diesel golf se,gt (has to be 5 door) or gtd/gtd(pref 5door) will always be good news every day of the week.

On the gti review they said the standard suspension on gti were more on the mid-sports side anyway. Its already lowered 20mm from the standard golf so couldn't see much appeal. Can understand if driving different terrains ie motorway driving to track racing.Plus the DSG box still has the sports mode.

The ACC in 'comfort' is truly wonderful on motorway journeys and gives the car a limo feel. The smoothness is uncanny.
For London driving, I leave the car in 'comfort' all the time as that's what it does. Very relaxing. I could not bear the jiggly ride in 'normal' on our lousy roads.
It is a wonderful option.

As for Cruise Control, I've used it once and I had it retro-fitted by VW for £162.50 (fitted & inc VAT) as it was cheaper than a factory order! Strange that. The reason I got it was it makes the left lever look more 'technical'.

The page in autocar about the different reviewers views on ride quality of the new VW Tourreg make interesting reading imo. It just goes to show everyone has different views on ride quality and noone even reviewers are right or wrong. You have to sample it for yourself to make your mind up.
My view is if you have 18" monza shadows ACC for me would be a must on the mk6 as the ride imo is much harder than the mk5 GTI was but as i said everyones view is different.
