Does anyone know if the RNS 510 sat will replace the RCD 310?
Not sure weather or not to order RCD510 and replace later or stick with RCD310 and replace?
-
i would just get the basic one.. then upgrade to the RNS510 like many have done on here for about £600
-
Stick with the RCD310, order it with Dynaudio (I think you can) and replace later with the RNS510 *+ VW Premium Bluetooth through Darren. By far the most economical way.

Dynaudio with RCD510 or RNS510 only.
-
Is the DYNAUDIO worth it?

Is the DYNAUDIO worth it?
Yes it is bloody brilliant, gives the system more deep sound a lot more power too!!
-
For what you get for the money, unless your really into aftermarket, i think its a bargin. But other peoples ways of assessing 'better' are different to my music reproduction industry recognised standards.

You might also probably need to consider a sub woofer with either the Standard set-up and the Dynaudio.
Below is another interesting thread.

Thanks. Just checked and does require RDS or RNS 510 large screen for DYNAUDIO. Probablly order cheaper RCD version and swap later for RNS 510.

That's what I did. Bought an RNS off eBay from a guy in Lithuania for £600. It took me 10 minutes to fit and worked perfectly. I then sold my TomTom (£100) and my RCD510 (£350), so the RNS only cost me £150.
It really is worth having and not only for the satnav. It has loads more features than the RCD, not least of which is the HD which has enabled me to put my entire music collection of some 2000 tracks on to it for instant access while driving

Does this LEd RNS510 have no Regensburg syndrome?
after parking your car a couple of days, will it directly point the right way where the car is standing when you start it?
I have an A-version and update'd it a couple off times, no i have the Regensburg syndrome and must a drive a couple of km's before the GPS is correcting it to the right way, i always starts up in Germany..........it must be the Netherlands.........

Yep, you can spec Dynaudio on the VW site for GT and Match only with the RCD310, but not for the GTi/GTD/R unless you get an RCD510! Strange!
I've just checked!
-
I got an LED version from the guy above too...
I ordered it on a Friday and it came on the Tuesday - despite it being a bank holiday Monday!
Pretty impressive! The unit was immaculate and exactly as described. I think it was a little more than £600 when I got it as the LED version was very new then.
No regensberg for me - it always knows where I am as soon as it boots.

Same here. I received the unit the very next day - impressive.

Item description says it's Used, did you guys buy a new one or a used RNS510?
Can you see it's used?
-
Golf Match has RCD510 6 CD autochanger + DAB radio as standard and can therefore be specified with Dynaudio for £355.
GT/GTi/GTD/R come with RCD310 as standard and Dynaudio can only be specified in conjunction with RCD510 as a bare minimum.
DAB radio can be specified with RCD310/RCD510 but not with RNS510.

I think mine must have been fitted to a Mk6 Golf at some point, simply because it was all set up for one. It came in a non-factory box, but oddly the Key Code card looked genuine. Apart from the packaging (which was very good), the unit looked 100% new - no finger marks, or scratches. I can only speculate as to its origin, if you get my drift
-
Doesn't RSN510 require DAB ariel or doesn't it receive digital radio?

It is not compatible for or receive DAB.
PM SteveP or Mortygt140. The experts.

so pointless having DAB ariel for RCD510 if planning to fit RNS510 after?

Got my RNS510 from this guy on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Volkswagen-navigation-RNS-510-VW-RNS510-MFD3-C-LED-/270613170689?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM)
LED version, Working perfectly, unmarked, as new.
Ordered on a Wednesday and it arrived the next day
-
Cheers I will look into that
-
Mine came very well packed with a custom made polystyrene filled type box.
Inside I got an aerial adapter (not required for my car), official Map DVD V5 (V6.1 was installed on the units HD), a code card, and the latest FW disk (which was also installed on the unit). The unit was wrapped in cling film to keep it from getting scratched.
The stereo itself was immaculate. There were no obvious marks or scratches. The date on the serial sticker (manufacture date) was only about 6 weeks old. Like FroGTI - I wouldn't like to guess where it had come from (the seller told me it was rescued from a written off car  ), but it looks and works like new.

Did someone have a "normale" RNS510 before and swapped it for a LED version?
I want to know if you see any difference on the screen, for example more brightness, more details etc.
-
Did someone have a "normale" RNS510 before and swapped it for a LED version?
Yes...
The overall brightness seems to be a bit better in that you can see the screen on the LED version better in sunlight. The main difference is that the LED version is at full brightness as soon as you switch it on. The older version seems to take 30 seconds or so to come to its full brightness.
The touch screen seems a bit more responsive. Sometimes I found I really had to 'poke' the old version - whereas the LED one responds to lighter touches.
Other than that - I no longer have Regensberg Syndrom - but thats about it!

If i understand you right, you had the regensburg trouble to with your other rns510?
-
I would agree with p3eps: the LED is brighter and more sensitive than the non-LED screen, but not enough to warrant upgrading from old to new, IMHO.

My old one is perfect, no scratches and other things, but to firmware 1100 he was working perfect and still is, but after a retro fit for a emblem/camera i needed to update the firmware for a larger RVC screen and that's were the Regensburg trouble came in, i really hate that, if i come out of a garage i want to no wich direction i need to go, but the regensburg issue make me drive a couple of miles before the rns510 picks up the right location.......
-

Correct!
I have a reverse cam and I liked the layout of the parking sensors / cam on my RCD510.
When I replaced the RCD510 with the RNS510, I couldn't get the same layout without upgrading the firmware. Once I updated the firmware I got Regensberg syndrom.
I put up with it for a few weeks, but it annoyed me too much.

SOUNDS LIKE THIS REPLACING RCD510 WITH CAM FOR RNS510 SOUNDS COMPLICATED AND TROUBLESOME?

Absolutely not at all!
Its a simple plug and play task as long as you have an RNS510 with a recent firmware version.

As I am quite hopeless with electronics, I bought mine from Mortygt140 (Darren). It cost me a bit more, he fitted it together with the VW Premium Bluetooth and I had peace of mind.

WHITEY:
(1) If you consider DAB radio important then buy RCD510 (includes built-in 6 CD changer) + DAB + Dynaudio and get a TomTom or equivalent.
(2) If DAB is not important, then buy the car with standard RCD310 (ugly) and upgrade later to RNS510.
As I was a bit confused when specifying my options, I had no choice and went later for Option 2.
Personally, I prefer Option 1 as you get so much more for your money.
I hardly use the Sat Nav. I really bought it for its looks to be honest!
REMEMBER: You cannot order Dynaudio with the RCD310 and it is a PITA to fit later on.
-
I use sat nav quite a lot and there's nothing worse than seeing a new car with a TomTom stuck to the screen. I think i'd prefer the gimiky rear cam to having DAB and also want DYNAUDIO. Going to have to be the RCD 510,cam,DYNAUDIO and replace with RNS510 later. Delivery is not while march 2011 so I'll probablly consult you guys when I come to buy and swap stereos.
-
By the way, how do you get your car pics on? I;ve tried pasting on signatures but that dont work?

I think the Navpart of the RNS510 is poor TBH , it wont let you put in a 6 didget postcode drives me bloody insane

That is what I initially thought when I went from a TomTom to the RNS510. However I've found it really doesn't make much difference to me to be honest.
A full 6 digit postcode will only lead you to a choice of around 30 houses (at least it does for my postcode) you still need the house number.
A 4 digit postcode brings up all the possible roads that cover that postcode. Click on the road and then the house number!!
To me its only a couple more clicks.
Granted if you only have the postcode and its a business / shop you are looking for then it can be a pain without being able to enter the full 6 digit code.

What is this Regensburg Syndrome please?
-
Taken from another thread:
"You can also experience what the Germans call Regensburg syndrome where your RNS loses its GPS signal and so thinks its in Regensburg in Germany until it recalculates its position"
Which can take several minutes until it finds where it really is.
-
BTW Regensburg is a beautiful medieval town in Bavaria. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Not bombed and quite perfect. A must see place especially the perfectly preserved 900 year old stone bridge across the Danube. Amazing city.
This is what most of Germany was like before the bombing by the Allies in WW2.
-
Oh right thanks I certainly don't have this on my RNS510 thank goodness. sounds like a place worth a visit one day.

600GBp including shipping, it's 100% new, after contacting the seller he send me an new LED version with H41 and sw2760........recieved it on the other day......from Lithuania.........amazing......
He even send me a gift, 2 SDHC cards.....!!!!!
-
Just out of interest, why did you specify H41 and sw2760?
It doesn't fix the battery drain issue for old CAN gateways by any chance?
