Title: DSG problem
Post by: Ugiol on 21 August 2010, 14:56
I couldn't find any information on this particular problem that I experienced today whilst driving home so hopefully you can help.

Bear in mind my car has just had a major service, dsg oil change and new cam belt 3 weeks ago. It's an 05 model with 39.5 miles on the clock.

Basically, when trying to push the gear stick over to manual mode, it kept springing back. Eventually after a few tries it engaged as normal but then I find it won't go into S from D without almost forcing it in. That seems to have cleared up but now when putting it into S mode is just springs back into D, much like when I was trying to put it in manaual mode.

Unfortunately, my local dealer is shut. Any ideas about what's happening? I hope it isnt too serious/expensive!

Thanks

I heard once that the gaitors around the gear selector are a bit tight from factory and that some plastic somewhere within can break causing this very problem, was in golf + mag a few months ago, think the solution was a new gaitor/plastic trim/knob which from the dealers is pricey, but sure a breakers will have one. Worth a look anyway.

Thanks, that's very good to know.

I've contacted the dealer who did my service and they are ringing me back today.

I'll let you know how I get on.
