Hoping to pick up my car next week which is DSG, having not driven one before I have a few questions:
1. Can I leave it in D while I am waiting at the lights or a junction.
2. Can I switch between D & S while the car is moving.
3. What are they like on a hill start.
I know these may seem basic questions, but DSG is going to be new to me.

1. yes - you didn't think you had to move gear selection each time you stop did you?!
2. yes - of course, just like you can move in and out of auto/manual.
3. easy!

No I was unsure whether the car creeping forward all the time I would have the Hand Brake or Foot Brake on to prevent it would cause wear and tear.
-
No wear and tear would be caused by leaving it in D while stood still as long as your not going to be stood there with it in D for hours on end and even then it would be highly unlikely that any wear would be caused.. the dsg boxes will generally be the most durable part of the car unless your hammering hundreds of extra horses through it ha

You won't regret going for DSG

If you put the handbrake on make sure you are in Neutral or Park
99.999999% of people just put their foot on the brake pedal and then set off when the lights are at green/junction is clear. Very few people put the car into neutral.
-
If I drive a auto I tend to slip it in neutral whilst waiting at lights, just think it is safer.

99.999999% that's a quite specifc number, where's the research paper? ;)
What I do tends to depend on the lights, ones I know the sequence to I will slip into neutral if I know I'm near the beginning, and will just use footbrake if I'm near the end.
Many others I tend to go to neutral.
What's up with the quoting system?

It's all gone Pete Tong!

leaving it in D is the same as leaving it at the "bite point" in a manual, some wear and tear, so better to put in in neutral so the engine isn't biting, but not the end of the world.

Thanks for that.
Cant wait for next Saturday!!!!!

put it into N for sure..............

I have recently just bought my first ever auto car and it is DSG.
You will not regret it they are a joy to drive and soo easy and lazy! I really like it!
1.Yes you can leave it in D while at tlights, just keep your foot on the brake
2.Yes you can swith between D and S while moving
3.Takes a bit of getting used to hill starts but they are easy after a bit of practice!

Get a manual, get an auto when you are too old to be able to change gear.
