Title: 170k and all good...

Just turned 170,000 miles this week in my 8 valve GTi... and still produces over 40 to the gallon on a run...

Thats good to hear mate! Its nice to see some positive mk 3 threads goin up today! Im chuffed with mine as it just went through its mot with minimal bother. :cool:

And at 170,001 miles the ECU died, the cambelt broke bending all the valves, a rod came out the side and the gearbox exploded, all simultaneously! Spooky, maybe Fate reads the forum... :grin:

Seriously though, good effort. Hope you manage a few more miles together yet.

sh!t, i just bought mine last week with 174k. hope i don't have that in store  :sad:

hi fella, mine has 189k still going very strong and i can get 40mpg, also she sailed thrpugh the mot! i love my mk3 gti 16v

40mpg!?!! I wish mine was even a few above where it is now (about 20mpg)
Only an 8 valver and it doesn't get thrashed, and it spends most of the time on a motorway cruising!!! Cue the violins  :cry:

just gone 196,000 and get about 28mpg round town with a heavy boot  :grin:

good comments guys...

i know what you mean about fate though... although just had my cam belt done, gearbox was done 2yrs ago, and like most of yours it to sailed through its MOT this year as well...

just need to sort the alarm/windows going down thing.... had no replies on that..

its awsome! im trying to find someone to professionaly valet the car, get everythng top again, but its proving hard! lol

I'm at 174,000.

Just had cambelt and water pump done.

On occasion I'm able to get 45mpg. 40 on a rum, 35 littering around town.
