I would be very grateful if a couple of you would be kind enough to post some pictures of your rear bumper number plate area for comparison with mine so that I may send these to VW to show them that the deformations I have are not standard. Red coloured cars preferable, though any other darkish colour would also be of great help.
I am having a really difficult time trying to convince VW that my bumper deformations are not standard.
Below are pictures of my car showing the problem.

Heres one - as you can see, the area is completely flat. I'll take one closer tomorrow for you as well
-
You are a star Hartside.
I desperately need all the help I can with this problem.
If I have made any enemies please forgive me but please help me now.

Just a thought, but on your travels can you not drop in a few VW dealerships and just take some snaps of some of the mk6's on their forecourt? Plus if you get chatting to a sales rep, maybe you could co-herce them in to putting it in writing that the numberplate surround is meant to be flat.
I'm considering getting a motor from VW and all these stories I keep reading on here about their issues (especially yours) is not putting much confidence in me when this is going to be my first real big purchase of a new car.
-
A nice big picture of my numberplate surround just for you. Just don't tell my wife I spend my mornings posting pix of my numberplate on the Internet, or her suspicions about me being completely loopy will be confirmed

Hartside, MAW, Froggy you are all stars and I am very grateful.
Froggy, I won't tell your wife whom I have not met!
I wonder if Erik will send me some?
More pictures please especially red cars of Penguin, Neil, Ess_Three, Gossa.
Please, please.
You guys are great.
It seems VW tecnical have closed the case as this deformation is standard. Now customer services have taken it up!
-
Thank you Simonpolly.

Nothing to see here:

Thanks Ess_Three. You are a star!
May I be so bold as to request one more picture which is even more flattering, please?
Sorry for being such a pain.
VW are driving me into an unnecessary fury. I cannot understand how they can be so blind!
-
Thanks Ess_Three. You are a star!

Sorry for being such a pain.
What do you want to see, more specifically?
I will get another pic...but it may not be today - I'm having a new front door fitted at the moment and I've promised to lend an hand lifting 'stuff' so will be gainfully employed this afternoon...plus my car is currently manky!

Thanks. I would like to see a little waviness as possible. There is very, very, slight waviness in the picture but that's because of the angle I presume.
Don't do your back-in hefting things.

Kenny, thanks.
But do you have a full-on view, please like Ess_Three's?

Here you go, flat black bumper. It's grubby as hell thanks to motorway driving yesterday and I'm cleaning her this afternoon.
I've got what look like stress marks on either width of the plate inset (see marked image below) but they're nowhere near fixing points and it looks like distortion in the rear bumper mould, they're nowhere near the number plate fixers.
Hope this helps and if you need some other shots, I'll have a clean car later today and if you really want fancy, I'm filming in a drive on set next week and if we run to time, I can always drive the car in and fire off a few shots under perfect lighting. You're currently seeing a bit of my street in the reflection.
Apologies for size, tried supplying them at a print friendly resolution if you need to output them for the dealer.

Left side, less pronounced. Partially due to lighting conditions.

Despite the dirt on the car, you can see the reflection line is broken by the distorted surface.
-
am1w I shall have pics up by tomorrow night at the latest

Looking at your first picture again, I can see why you're so hacked off. It looks as if someone's been at the bumper with a heat gun

The thought had crossed my mind ..... and they did a rubbish job!
Went to the VW Service dept to see a black GTi. First they said it was as bad as mine and there was no need to see it! There was some distortion, but nowhere near as bad as mine.
It was in a difficult place for me to take a picture. Will go back later.
Hacked off with VW to say the least.

Here you go - flat as a pancake! I tried to get straightish objects in the reflection so that you can see it easily

Brilliant Hartside. Another star is born!

As much as I would like to post a picture of my rear I wont  if truth be told someone reversed into my car this afternoon... AGAIN!!!

Just a slight scratch on rear q. other driver has admitted liabilty, so no issues there. I have had so many prangs that I now qualify for an automatic upgrade to their top prestige cars!! they love me
-
Gilly: you wild child. I used to be one but I bet I was worse! Enjoy!

PS i know the car needs cleaning  it pissed it down yesterday a few times and it got filthy.
-
Thanks Snoops.
This whole thing is driving me to distraction.
Now I really know how you feel.
-
Car looks ace Snoops. I do like that colour that might be next for me!!
-
^Thanks. I get nothing but complements on the colour when people see it in real life. Its normally the first thing anyone says when they first see the car for the first time. Its Just a shame photos never show how it really looks in real life.
-
It really is an amazing colour. Makes the car look more expensive.
-
You may notice the VW fox (you know the cheap ands cheaply made vw) also have a similar shaped number plate cutout. The one i looked at and was behind on the way home yesterday looked flat.

I have a feeling that GTis betwen BW7 and BW9 have had a rear bumper pressing fault.
Yours and mine are the same BW. Can't remember the exact BW but it's betwen 7 and 9.
-
Try contacting some of the guys on
http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=135785.0
As H12's GTI for example was on the same boat as mine and made more or less the same time.

If that's an accepted truth, then VW should recall and repair all the cars affected.

They've admitted that this deformation is standard production. Now that was stupid. I have now produced a comprehensive dossier to prove that this is incorrect. I will send this later today with a very strongly worded letter. There will try anythig and everything to avoid paying. But they are not getting away with it. I've got the bit between my teeth.

It's all so time consuming and unnecessary.

Agreed. You would think VW would rather pay up for your repair than generate ill feeling and negative publicity. Your misadventure is certainly making me wonder whether I will buy from them again with my usual blind faith
-

You think. PMSL. Maybe VW france but not VWuk. I still have an on going open case since December!! VWuk and VWCS don't give a rats ass.
2 of my families cars are now due to be replaced and one has just been. We have always been a large close strickly loyal VW/Audi/SEAT family since the 70s, the way i have been treated has been shown and told to all the family. I don't think VW/Audi loyal will be the case much longer one family member has already defected  and at the present situation they will all follow.
Work also knows and has seen my treatment due to having to take one weeks of this years holiday entitlement at the end of last year to try and sort the mess out, and also the on going phone calls and hassle. We did have VW/Audis only fleet cars at work but now due to my treatment a new Merc has just arrived with more to follow  VWgroups loss.
-
They way you have been treated Snoops is shocking. I have more or less decided that I will have to seriously re-consider buying another VW. I'll post the letter on this forum that I am about to send VW.
-
I will never buy a new or newish one again myself im sad to say unless they suddenly treat me right which i doubt and i was a loyal dedicated VWgroup fan  I even use to have a VW badge for a head see earlier photo in the thread
breath.....Sorry it started me off again
-
I am afraid they have also lost me as a customer for one of their new cars or possibly any car from their stable. Never had such treatment before. Should have got a second C Class instead. One lives and learns.
-
It seems it happens in lots of companies and buisnesses, you get a good repuation. Lots of people want your product due to your repuation for quality, badge etc. CS becomes rubbish but you always have the demand due to your old repuation so theres always new customers to replace the ones you treat like poo.
BUT it only lasts so long thankfully.

Here is the letter I am sending VW Customer Services today.
OFFICIAL COMPLAINT
Dear .........,
I wish to officially complain about the callous nature my case has been dealt with by VW Technical Services. I also wish to specifically complain about the individual at VW Technical Services who, in my carefully considered opinion, took an incorrect and uninformed decision regarding this specific case.
It has been agreed by both you and the body shop, ARC, that there is an obvious deformation of the bumper in the number plate area.
However, no one is willing to take a decision to remedy this defect. I therefore feel very unsupported.
I am providing you all the pictures I have so far compiled of VW Golf Mk6 GTi cars which I would be most grateful for you to urgently send to VW Customer Services together with this letter. I will be speaking to ....... on Monday 23rd August regarding this letter of complaint. I feel these pictures provide sufficient proof that the bumper deformation is not a standard production feature. This clearly contradicts what VW Technical are saying.
I have put together all the pictures (as below) for ease of reference. These pictures have either been very kindly provided by friends or taken by me.
You will notice that I have also provided pictures of three cars with faulty bumpers in the number plate area and one of them is mine. Also, mine is significantly worse than the other two. It would seem that some cars may have slipped through with this production defect.
I find it quite incredible that VW Technical in the UK feel that a deformed rear bumper is a standard production item and is compatible with the supposedly high German VW quality standards.
I hope that common sense and fair play will prevail. I am not willing to accept anything less than a full rectification of the deformed bumper on my car. I am also quite willing to contact relevant consumer organisations, motor magazines and the MD of VW UK in order to highlight this problem and obtain a just result for myself.
It would seem that VW have very little concern or regard for the ill feeling they are promoting in me, the customer, and for all the negative publicity this will surely generate.
My Customer Ref is ........... and I dealt with ........ who was very helpful.
Kind regards,
.............

There you go. Turns out the camera driver had uninstalled itself. All sorted. Hope the photos help. I got the best reflections possible.

Brilliant Penguin.
Really, really grateful.

Letter and Pictures sent.

Hope they sort it for you as yours looks very bad. I have basically more or less given up with them myself. :embarassed:

I now know how angry and furious you must have felt and still feel. It has become all consuming in the last 2-3 days. Now the letter has been sent, I'll just have to wait and see. But I will not give up and neither should you.
Really angry with them.
-
Pester power always works am1w so keep at them.
I recently noticed my headlight surround had a crack along the top of it. I mentioned it at my recent service and was told those kind of faults are only covered by warranty for roughly 6 months so they wouldn't be sorting it!!! The warranty manager said he would attempt to get VW to sort it but didn't hold out much hope.
I went on holiday and phoned him 2 weeks later, he informed me another Golf came into the workshop with the same fault so now miraculously it is now being sorted under warranty!!
So if VW find a few cars with the same fault then you should be in with a good shout to getting it repaired.
-
Yep you are right p3.
I'll pester them until they lose the will to live. Believe me, I'm an expert at this.

Got a case manager appointed and am now dealing directly with VWCS.
-
amw1....... Good letter, I'm sure it will do the trick. I can't see how VW can get out of that one, especially with all the pics.
-
Thanks MAW.
I do hope they will be reasonable and logical.
But one never knows!
-
I hope you get it sorted, I wrote two letters of complaint about my rattly gearbox and both times I was told to poke off by VWCS, Buy another VW certainly not!
Good luck.
-
I am so sorry Asker, I've been so busy at work this week I've not had a chance to take any photos of my rear (you know what I mean).
If you've sent the letter I guess you don't need anymore now anyway. Hope this is resolved properly for you.
Gizzy
-
No probs Amanda. I quite understand.
Had a call from VWCS Case Manager. The matter has now been referred to senior managers and I will hear from them next week on Wednesday.
I have told them that I am considering contacting VW UK CEO Chris Craft w.r.t the processing problems and unacceptable service I have experienced from VW Technical with my Warranty Claim.
-
Got a case manager appointed and am now dealing directly with VWCS.
Ive had 4 of them  they keep quitting.
-
I have been looking at a couple of family members SEAT Ibiza's this morning as the rear number plate surround is very similar to the golfs. Neither have distorsion. (I was going to take photos but its windy and raining heavy now  )
-
I was going to take photos but its windy and raining heavy now
Just came back from Shotley Bridge - torrential
-
^Just abit
I kept looking at my number plate bit this morning while fitting a security camera and security light on the side of the house and its starting to bug me now
-
1000s of these in Madrid and not a distorted bumper. Perfect weather.
-
Snoops: I know just how you feel. Your's is nowhere near as bad as mine. But it is still unacceptable. Am quite fed up with VW. I will not rest until it is fixed.
-
Mine is exactly like snoopy's, not really that noticeable on steel grey though unless the sun is directly on it and your lookin for it. Oh well, just another thing to put on the list. :undecided:
