just got a 1.8t aum  any ideas weres the best place to re-map it??
-
R-Tech all the way. I know everyone on here seems to banter on about them but I have had nothing but good service from the guys there. Helpful and friendly wont remap and run like many other turners out there do.
Don't quote me on this but I think its £250 for a remap, full diagnostics and rolling road before and after. AUM so you have the better turbo Ko3s so 210(?)
Best bet is to give Pip or Nick a ring - http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=118859.0

yeah sounds all good mate cheers for the advice... any other ideas for me afterwards very new to the modding game??
-
Before the remap-
I would recommend before going up there buy a Forge 007p DV, the VW standard one is prone to crack and hinder performance by giving a boost leak. Also a Pipercross Panel Filter. That should see you good results.
Just be warned this extra power and torque can put strain on your clutch and if its going this will almost certainly finish it off. Good upgrade for this is a VR6 and G60 set up read here (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=87775.0)
After the remap-
Full turbo back exhaust, Milltek are the most known, but you can get a custom job made up for a bit less. Decat or sports cat if you have a few bob to spend.
Front mount Intercooler(FMIC) to cool the air down.
The list can go on just depends on what you want to achieve.
-
Give topher a shout http://www.tuneside.co.uk/
-
are you not best gettin the decat before the remap so they can adjust the lambda sensor values?
if your goin to r-tech just get them to fit the forge dv.

For stage 1 you do not need a decat. To make the most of a decat you need a map to accommodate to the faster spool that is where stage 2 remap with the limits increased for the sensors comes for most.
R-Tech or Tuneside will point you in the right direction what ever you do. Best advice you cold possibly get are from either Nick ar R-Tech or Chris (topher) at Tuneside

Best place to remap? Or best places to avoid would be a good thread someone should start. I'm sure Nick, Chris and Ben would all help contribute also to this kind of thread. The good, the bad and the ugly it should be called, I nominate the ducky the one to avoid!

I would recommend Awesome GTI in Manchester really helpful and really good service, also they offer REVO chips now which are definately some of the best if not the best in the market!

Awesome would be a 500 mile around trip, v.good company and just getting to grips with the Revo maps.
We can offer the mobile service to Essex, the price will be as listed on the Revo website plus £40 for the mobile service. You best bet for the Revo remap is use AMD who are based in Essex, twist there are and they might even give you a free rolling road session.. Plus if you even need updates you only need to pop in to there, if you use R-Tech or Awesome you will have a huge road trip each time.

there you go you probably won't here that from many companys who are normally only interested in selling there own products ,but i'll be another one to reccomend r-tech's services had mine done 18 months ago and still loving it and some of my mates have also employed the services of nick and co and more than happy with the results ,but be warned after a while you will start wanting a bit more i am now getting due for a revisit for a little extra tweeking, just need to know what my best options are

R-Tech all the way, they dont just plonk a generic map on your car, they adjust it to suit your car to get it performing its best and still safe.

Got stage one remap last weekend at AMD with a pipercross airfilter. Came up as 223Hp @ 3148Rpm as standard, now at 246Hp @ 4298Rpm although I had mixed 95 & 99 petrol in. Apparently AMD did some tests on petrol and said you can expect upto 20Hp more from 99  so I'm going to try and not mix and go for 97/99 where I can find it (usually tesco)...it was only mixed cause I went to Morrisons before and they didn't have any premium fuel
It's all very smooth through the range but when you floor it the difference it's made is very very noticable, from 2000Rpm my head flips back and it's almost warp speed.......and from the avg consumption figures I get 7mph more now  ALL good!
I'd highly recommend AMD (at Lakeside, Essex)

Just wanna say I too would recommend R-Tech STRONGLY! I have a AUM 2001 GTi and with no other mods I'm now running 210bhp and 235 torque! Plus my turbo sounds better... All for a very reasonable price!
Let us know how you get on

all this talk of remapping is making me think more about wanting mine done
is it possible to remap so the car can run better instead of performance gain, however at the same time, benefit from an 'increase' of power when say hitting a certain rev of around 3.5k or example?
for a non-turbo of course?
thanks
-
Thinking of getting mine done too, did send nick a PM a while back, but heard nothing. I too have heard good things about AMD, going over that way this weekend, so may well get it done if not this weekend then pretty soon.

Watch if you are using a SAT nav on the post code...you end up 0.5 mile away at the Harley Davidson shop (not a bad shop to look around though) but AMD are at the right hand side to IKEA in a group of Industrial units
