Title: Hi Everyone, Im Baaack
Post by: 87_PROJECT on 15 January 2005, 12:01
Hi guys,

Some of you older members may remember me, some may not... I put my 8valve into a bridge at about 70mph last year and have been trundling around in an old E30 320... MOT time came round and the ?500-?1000 it was going to cost me to get through persuaded me to get another golf...

So I did...and Im back! Im now the proud owner of another small bumper "88 mk2 8 Valve!

Ill try and get some pics and video up over the weekend... Needs quite a bit of work...and to be honest probably should have shopped around a bit more..but hey ho...its done now!?

Helious blue in need of some T-Cut!, small rust area on rear... 106000 miles, Clutch on its way out, interior ok but not immaculate (seat levers broken etc) needs new tyres on the front...(going to order 4 toyo proxes tomoz, can anyone reccommend a better tyre for the money?)

Cost me ?440...(for sale for ?580)...and so far sold headlight grill and max power manual that came with it for ?60 on ebay...so ?380 it really cost...Central locking kit is also for sale if anyones interested...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4519019720&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT

It has some cheap aftermarket alloys (as you ll see in the photos to follow) but fortunateley the beemer has 4 VERY clean bbs wheels that I think Ill get the toyos fitted to...

Im basically hoping to get the car back to a reasonable condition...then depending on funds it will become one of two things...

1) we have a poor year and I cant afford another car so the golf would remain daily driver/standard.

2) We get a few nice jobs that lets me get a daily driver...golf gets stripped/roll caged and trackdayed up!

I wonder which outcome Id prefer...! better get working!

So anyway...just thought Id say Hi and hopefully you guys wont mind me hanging around again asking stupid questions...

(Hi to Rich especially...sorry Ive not been in touch hope you had a good xmas...beer soon?)

Also for anyone who hasnt seen it heres a short video from the no-rice meet held at Guildford that we put together...

Nice to see you back here. As great as the E30 is, it isn't a VW! You could always sell the dash from the Beemer, I know it fits into Golfs with a bit of modding, and is still a nice looking dash swap.

Thanks guys...

Really...the E30 dash will fit in my mk2? Obviously with some modding...I need to take the dash out though anyway to sort some faulty lights on the dash and some speaker wiring...(in the golf)...so I could give it a go...any idea on how much of a pain it is to fit?...

What do you all think I should do with the E30?...It needs for MOT...tyres,windscreen,brakes,head gasket,(and a few other bits!)...Hence why I decided it wasnt worth it...(only cost me ?800 2 years ago...)

So...I figure I could give it a good clean and sell as spares or repair as it is...probably/hopefully get between ?50-?150 for it...(the bodywork/iterior is pretty nice...and its a Beautiful looking E30...lowered sportpack etc...

OR...break for spares and sell in bits on ebay/E30 sites... I figure I only need to find 10/20 items worth around ?4-5 each to get the same kind of money back...

Or of course if anyone here wants an E30 I know a nice clean example..."in need of TLC" ;))

The E30 Dash swap was fairly popular in the early 90's. Personally, it is one of my favourite looking dashes, and I used to love the wrap around feel it gave on my old 325i. I haven't seen one in a golf for sometime now, but I ?have been told it is a fairly straight forward swap.
I would strip it and sell it on ebay. You should have no problems recouping some of your cash.

sell it as spares or repair, you get rid of the whole car in one go and it saves you the hassle of stripping it then advertising all the bits, then you`ve got to get rid of whats left

hmmm...I agree...selling it as is...would be a lot simpler...but Im never one to do stuff the easy way!

I figured If I arrange collection of the "carcass" for say a Monday evening...

That would give me the weekend to strip all the bits off...

If I sort my garage before hand...I could photograph each Item as it is removed and put in garage...

So by Monday evening The car is gone and all parts photographed, noted down and in garage...

I spend Sunday evening listing all the items on 7 day auctions all ?1.00 start, no reserve...

So In theory...at the end of the following week...I would have got rid of the car...along with the bits...(anything that doesnt sell on ebay could be relisted/taken to the dump...

I figure Id be VERY VERY lucky to get a buyer for the whole thing in this timeframe...

What do you reckon...

Oh yea...and I really enjoy pulling cars apart..so I wouldnt really see that as hassle!

PS Adam...I know what you mean...the driving position/dash layout on the E30 is Perfect!

i would check to see how much a breakers or whatever is going to charge to remove a mostly stripped bmw first.
as i think these days you pay them with this end of life vehicle act, the ones who remove mot failures for free recover their money by selling the parts, if it does not have may valuable parts left, they may want you to pay them.

Hey and take it easy this time, you're a good driver, I know, but we don't want any more arguments with bridges do we? You were lucky to escape with what you did, solid testament to these cars, but you might not be so lucky next time :lipsrsealed: nag over
