hi all, ive been getting a bangin noise from somewhere, which i thought was coming from the passenger side of the car, but doesnt seem to bang/knock when going over speed bumps slowly, so i had a look and i seem to be able to push and pull my engine back and forth quite a lot ( i think) with out to much hassle (not very difficult to move) should i be able to move the eninge like this, it appears to move quite a lot around the gearbox mount..
vw golf 2.0, gti, eng code is azj

I would have a look under your motor for your dogbone mount, check its still in place or it hasnt got any excessive movement -

As above Dogmount bushes are knackere or you have snapped the mount.

ive had a quick look at the dogbone mount, ther does seem to be a bit of play in it, gonna have a good look tomorrow, how much play should it have in it??

Shouldnt really be any play mate. May just a ickle bit of movement.
Worth replacing the bushes as they will go eventually. Upgrade to Poly bushes

whats the best dog bone mount bush ??

depends what your after, powerflex take a lot of engine sway out and make the gearchanges seem easier, but it can get very harsh. some people only use one of the bushes from the kit so its not as bad
everyday use id go for an r32 mount.

an update on my knocking problem :
had it in the garage for tracking doing and asked them to have a look to see what the banging was, they couldnt find anything wrong with it, they said theyd had the bar in it just like an mot and there is no play in any of the suspension parts. they r puzzled
