Title: The wait is over!
Post by: rsreid2000 on 18 August 2010, 11:33
After months of looking I have finally purchased a GTI.

Dealer in London had 5 BRAND NEW MKV's released to them on Saturday. When I phoned they had 2 left. Grey 3 door, full leather with 44 miles on the clock and a 3 door Silver full leather with 24 miles on the clock, both DSG. When I phoned back the silver had gone so went yesterday and viewed the grey and bought it there and then. Pick it up a week on Saturday (due to getting time off to go and collect it) and can't wait. Pics will be up as soon as poss.

the question you need to ask them is EXACTLY when was it manufactured. I believe the exact build date is on a sticker on boot floor and ask for full VIN and ask why was it sitting around?  might look fine on outside, but cars that sit around, build up loads of condensation and potential future problems.
confirm with them that warrenty is from the reg date too!

Yep +1 would be nice to know the build date.

He has told me they are off the last production line and put in a compound. They were registered in June to VW and then passed to the dealers on Saturday for sale. Solihull had a couple, they still have one with 5 miles on it. Car comes with 3 years warranty from June so 2 years 10 months left.

In many years time these will be the mythical '10 plate mk5's - just as K plate mk2's are all nerdy  :nerd:

So the mk5 finished in 2009 so these have been sitting around for a while, I wonder why they never sold.

The one in Solihull is £22k  seems a lot of money for a year old car even with 10 miles on it.

so it was manufactured over a year ago, well as my mate in the trade says, you pays your money and takes your chance!

My was £19,150 which I think for a 'New' car is a good price. That why I never looked at the Solihull one.

With respect it is not really a new car, yes in terms of being a 10 plate but it is a mk5 and a year old I would still want to know why they never sold them 1st time around.

You're right in what you are saying Wayne, but in the 6-7 months I have been looking 2008 DSG GTI's are going for around £17,000 - £19,000 depending on the spec and they have had 2-3 owners and are nearly out of warranty, so on that basis I think it is a good buy. Also not that many good ones are around for sale.

^^^ that made me chuckle!

Brought back memories of mythical 'L' reg Nova in Fast Car in about 1998. I'm sure it was lime green.

Ah, to be a teenager again.

My was £19,150 which I think for a 'New' car is a good price.

^^^ I agree and if it's being serviced and an (almost) a full warranty being offered, why not..?

You might get bit bum-r@ped in depreciation, though. It'll be harder to shift compared to a MKVI of similar vintage in a couple of years.

I wouldn't worry. Lots of cars sit in storage and import/export yards for months sometimes. You've got almost 3 years of warranty which should be plenty of time to find all the problems that may crop up.
Good luck and enjoy the car !

I saw the grey one and they also had a black 10 plate at the VW dealership on the Finchley Road, i assume thats the one you're getting.

The grey and black ones were same spec but the black one was a 5 door, spotted it straight away on the 10 plates too and asked my mate that works there about them!
