Title: help fitting KW coilovers
Post by: tim8v on 18 August 2010, 11:26
I am starting to build my MK2 for the GTI championship, and as such I am on a tight budget. I would like to try and do some of the work myself, so is there a guide to removing the standard suspension so I can fit coilovers? I know there is a sticky on here about changing the springs, would that be ok to use as a guide?

Any help would be appreciated!

Its only about 4 bolts per corner - piece of pi$$.

Its mostly common sense - remove whatever bolts are in your way.

on the front 2 bolts off the wheel bearing housing, then remove the securing bolt from the top mount ... done
on the rear 1 bolts off the rear beam, then remove the securing bolt from the top mount ... done

There's a really vague how-to on changing rear top mounts here: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=49436.msg1383398#msg1383398 - removing the whole shock is just 1 more bolt.

Can't imagine it taking more than 1-2 hours to do.
