Title: sony head unit not playing cd's or ipod...?

hi guys,

iv recently got a cd player and the fm radio works lovely in the car, however when i put a cd in it comes up on the display that its playing whatever song is on, however theres no sound....and the same with the ipod usb the song names are going across the screen but theres no sound.... but the radio works fine through the speakers does this sound obvious to anyone?
