Title: Heated rear screen removal
Post by: tobz. on 14 January 2005, 15:41
I want to try and swap a heated rear screen between two mk2 golfs this weekend but I'm a little sure about how to remove the glass from the car. I don't want to simply cut the seal as I want to practice on the donor car before trying it for real on my car.
I understand that to fit the glass you use a thin piece of rope around the seal and pull it back in, I'm sure this sounds a lot easier than it really is.
How do you get the glass out in the first place without damaging the seal???

open the boot, and spray fairly liquid in behind the seal. if you get a screw driver and run it between the seal and boot itself this will give you a decent gap to spray the soapy water into

then push the window in one of the top corners outwards, and just keep on gently forcing it, eventually it will start to release

lay down in the boot and push it with your feet while getting a trusty friend to catch it. you can take it quite steady and you've got good power in your legs, easy as. putting it back in can be done how you said, with the rope trick but your right it does sound easier that it is.
