Title: PAS hose
Post by: aminorthreat1 on 17 August 2010, 15:11
got a leak in my power steering hose, its the high pressure one just where it meets the pump, can you replace the section alone or do you need a whole new pipe, the ones i've seen only seem to run from the rack to just before the section i need.

i.e: the pipe starts of metal from the rack, then rubber, then metal, the ones on ebay only run from the metal at the rack, to the end rubber, missing the section that attaches to the pump.

hope you can make sense of that

its only half the pipe, and not the half i need!

all the oem ones ive seen are only available in 1 piece. if it was me id replace both pipes as if 1 is leaking i bet the other wont be far behind. its also not a fun job due to poor access, i did this on a mates mk2 and in the end i had to drop the subframe to get the pipes off as there was such little access and the pipes were badly seized in place.
Though yours is a mk3 so you might have better luck than me, the donor pipe we got to replace it came off a low mileage mk3 1.8, took me all of half an hour to remove from underneath and that included taking the other pipe off first to get better access.

aye i've just spent the past 40 mins under mine trying to get at the rack, nightmare, looking at the state of the pipes i'd say they both need replaced (high and low)

and i've found the right hose, that one was just a return, hadn't read the description right
