Title: New Car Protection
Post by: JamesR27 on 15 August 2010, 21:02
 Hi all,

I have had my current golf since Jan 05 and always used Diamond Brite stage 1 and 2, and then PS21, replacing this with Autoglym High Def wax.

I have a new car on order and wondered if its worth updating to anything new for the protection. I want to get something to protect it straight away and use about every few months as I have done previously.

What do people use and recommend for new cars?

Mine will be a Silver car so any advise appreciated.

my suggestion is!!
couple of buckets with gritguard
a microfibre wash mitt or lambs wool mitt
a dedicated alloy wheel cleaner
some wheel brushes
dodojuice born to be mild shampoo
any ultra fine claybar
dodojuice born slippy claylube
dodojuice lime prime lite(optional)
either jetseal109
fk1000p
durogloss 111
quick detailer: redmist tropical or any others really to use inbetween washes and after washes
plenty of fresh microfibre cloths and some good quality applicators.

i'll add to this if i think of anything else.

sounds like alot but these are just suggestions and its up to you what you want for keeping your new car in tiptop condition.

hope this helps

Just as Dan says really, i'll try and add some products in for you:

a microfibre wash mitt or lambs wool mitt - Something along the lines of Meguiar's Lambswool Mitt is good.
a dedicated alloy wheel cleaner - Bilberry Wheel Cleaner is a great alloy cleaner
some wheel brushes - The Vikan range is good, something i'll be stocking soon
dodojuice born to be mild shampoo - can't argue with this, fantastic shampoo
any ultra fine claybar - ValetPro/Meguiar's/Dodo Juice Supernatural, can't go wrong with any of them really.
dodojuice born slippy claylube - great clay lube
dodojuice lime prime lite(optional) - great glaze, should add something to the finish and will also be a great base layer for wax
either jetseal109 - great product, can be used on both paintwork and alloy wheels.

Hope that helps a little?

Chris

Thanks for the advice, Detailing seems very confusing and reading the web seems to have lots of different suggestions.
I only used Diamond Brite after it was recommended when I bought my current golf, as it would last upto 6 months with a good wax ontop. For years I used Poorboys EX Sealant and when this ran out I was recommended AutoGlym HD wax for good beading and shine.

I am good at washing the car, but waxing only really have time every 3 months ish thats why I kept on with the diamond brite for ease and speed at applying. My current car always been clayed once a year aswell coming out of winter and I have used a meguires wash mit for a few years.
