Title: central locking kits

im going to fit a toad ai606 to the golf, but as it started as a non gti its not got central locking. ive heard of kits off ebay,but theres tonnes to choose from,can anyone recommend one maybe? i only really want the drivers door to unlock, so might not even bother installing passenger 1.  if i got a universal 1, would i just not use the cheap fob that comes with it, wire it up to the toad and have that do it all yeah?

the toad should be able to control a bog std aftermarket 2 wire cl actuator direct, just chuck one o them in drivers door hooked up to the alarm and bobs your uncle

what about if you dont have an alarm? still a simple job to fit a central locking kit

yeah just buy an aftermarket cl kit and fit it, pretty easy with a bit of thought.  i recommend the rclick.co.uk kits, best quality of all the ones i have installed

well im not gonna bother sourcing and fitting an old vacuum style one with all the bits, just wanted to know if theres any real chewy ones that should be avoided. ive found an oe electronic central locking kit, genuine from vw for cars not fitted originally, so when that comes through ill check to see if its any good for the job,should be able to suss it out. rj you'll probably know, when fitting the toad to the door pins do i need a diode soldered in, its something to do with the pin being normally open or normally closed, wether it goes to earth or goes to 12v or somethin. im guessing it goes to earth? '91 mk2 16v btw

I have one of these kits on my mk2

Works well plus you get a remote boot pop. You get a complete kit.

Be careful with some of the alarm/central locking systems on e-bay. Apparently they have to be sold without the option of turning the auto-arm off.

If you don't know this it may cause a problem, in my case when the key were in it!

Most auto-arming alarms don't lock the doors, they just arm the alarm for that exact reason ;)
