im a bit of a newbie at this so i was wondering would a mk3 gti 16v engine be very hard to put in a mk2 1.6 golf?
-
Depends on your skill with the spanners.
The basic answer is no.
The slightly more involved answer is 'use the search'.

Can and has been done.
-
depends on skills.
if your competent with spanners and wires it's one of the easyer swaps for you
-
is this the best swap? surely there are better engines out there
-
entirly depends how you define your meaning of better !
if you stay in the vag box you can have 20vt, TFSI, v5 or vr6 and it's relations. depending what you want from it any one of said engines chould be the best conversion. the magor advantages for the ABF is it's bolts up an works without much bother, it's proably the best bang for buck conversion into a golf 2. the enigne is tough and there isn't really much to go wrong with them. seem more popular with the trackday crowd than 20vt's probly for those reasons

Not really, ABF in a mk2 as Dan said is a good all round choice.
