Hi new to this VAG thing and i seem to have problems with my MK4 GTI
Its just recently started smoking when hot. it doesnt do it all the time. only when its warmed up and i sit in traffic or at lights. then when pull away it give a puff of grey smoke and is then fine. thought it might be head gasket but no oil and water mix and no sludge on the oil cap.
thought it might be stem seals but they seem fine. also cleared the breather system. bit gunked but nothing major. A friend has said it could be overfuelling and the smoke does smell rich and not oily.
please help!

Thank heavens there was only one engine fitted to a Golf4 GTI. It means diagnosis from this sort of information is dead easy....... oh hang on, there were about four or more quite different engines fitted to them. What is it?

??? its a 2.0 8valve. 2001 plate? if that helps

2.0 I4 85kW (APK/AQY/AZJ/AZH)

bluey smoke is valve stem seals.
grey smoke going to be excess fuel, most likely to be the air mass meter get fault codes read or if none show look for silly readings. other likly option is the lambda
