I'm considering a stage 1 remap. Read loads on here and this has left me with no idea which one to go for. I can go up to 250bhp due to insurance. I like the idea of being able to switch between standard and the remap myself but this is not essential. Anybody with a stage 1 got any suggestions? I think I'm swaying towards Revo at the moment, hopefully the claimed +55bhp is very slightly optimistic / exaggerated
-
Revo is great but you'll need the sps or sps plus switch to change from stock to performance mode and vice versa.
-
Yeah I was thinking maybe bluefin as that can be done from home. Seems to have mixed reviews
-
If you are only planning on going no more then stage 2, then in my opinion Bluefin will best suit.
Only if want to go stage 2+ will revo give better dividend.
You dont need a select switch for a stage 1 map. Total waste of money.
At least with bluefin you keep your VW stock map on its handset which takes 5-6 minutes to re-install for a dealer Visit.
Revo give you a Mock version of your origonal map.It will also add to the cars flash counter, whereas bluefin doesnt.
Standard GTi stage 1 will get you between 230-235bhp.
If you have an Edition30/pirelli, expect towards 280bhp.
For nearly a £300 mark up for revo with sps switch to Bluefin with handset, map, and your origonal map as a 2nd choice. I know which id plump for.
Tis up to you of course fella.

I'm looking at remaps too, me personally I don't think I will go above a stage 1 what with all the hardware extras you have to get to get the best out of the map. Personally I am not fussed about out and out BHP, I would rather the map make the car better to drive, make it deliver smoother power if you know what I mean? I have a DSG GTI, so with that in mind what company do people suggest for my needs?
Sorry if I have stolen the thread.

You could read what i said above your post as a start??
Or use the forums Search tab for more info.

We're after the same thing. Mines a DSG GTI as well, not interested in anymore than stage 1. Only mentioned bhp because my insurance won't cover for more as a 22 year old
-
give nick at r-tech a ring, they have a stage 1 map and supply revo now too, great bunch of guys and they will be able to answer all the questions for you.
-
Same position here and after lots of reading I've gone for the Bluefin option (bought a reset handset for £260 yesterday). Easy to use at home, can switch back to the original map and not as aggressive as Revo or other options.

Where did you get the reset handset? Not sure I need the ability to switch, just thought doing it myself would be easy. I'm looking at Tuneside at the moment, should be able to get everything done in one go and for a good price.

Oh sorry I must have missed the bit where you mentioned the Bluefin remap deliveries smooth power and is specifically designed for the DSG gear box. Oh ........ no ........ wait you didn’t say those things.
I have used the search function, and I have read the whole sticky thread on remaps, but like this threads title suggests there can sometimes be too much info, and it can boggle  the mind.

Go for the most powerful stage 1 map you can get and then take it to a Dyno Dynamics set of rollers. They are "pessimistic" dynos and when you get 250 bhp on theirs, you will be a good 20bhp more on other dyno's. It will also give you a readout of power, so you can prove it to your insurance

Which remap is most powerful? I get the impression tuners are creative with their figures sometimes
-
REVO or GIAC have proven to yield the most power from a stage 1.
APR, Custom-code and Superchips are more conservative and usually are a few BHP down, but some maps are a little smoother.
R-Tech, Shark Performance etc are smaller companies who deal in a more custom map, but still provide good results.
Search through the back catalogue off RR days on JKM's site or Awesome GTI's site and there are quite a few MKV GTI's in different states of tune to compare, but only compare like for like as the dyno's are different

I'll have to have a look. Thanks for the links. I am thinking r-tech now, hmm, they said a mid range remap is £200 and can be set to keep to my bhp restriction, then can be increased to a full remap at a later day for £85. Sounds reasonable to me.

Bought it second hand from someone on the Mk5gti forum. They seem to go for anything between £250 and £300.

Very happy with my Superchips Bluefin. Just right for a DSG GTI on country roads.

Dyno Dynamics rolling road only good for wheel bhp and to get the fly wheel power just they guess and add a fixed amount of around 15% but this is not speed or gear dependent. I have started to use a DD rolling road and can see all the flaws with it. Its just a well marketed rolling road.

That would fit with me having just over 380hp at the wheels then 381hp=438 at the crank, so virtually spot on

Had my mk5 remapped courtesy of Nick @ R-Tech,i must say im over the moon with it.
242HP delivered nice and smooth, transformed the car from standard.....goes like stink and i love it...
Would recommend anyone thinking of having their car mapped to go to R-Tech......
