Title: Whining in 2nd gear

As the topic states I have since yesterday heard this whirring / whining noise whilst driving in 2nd gear for extended periods. (Like driving on a long road with speed humps) Sounds a lot like it does when you reverse quite quickly, its that sort of sound. 

Any ideas?

what car is it? could be the clutch release bearing?
