Hi there,
We're looking to pick up a MK4 Tdi in the next couple of days. The VIN/VRM matches up etc and the HPi is clear but the manufacturing date says 2002, and the VIN refers to a 90bhp model. As far as I know the 90bhp version stopped production in Oct 01; does anyone know if VW did a run of 90 break engines into 2002?? Odd question I know, but as the car seems straight in every way, I thought it was worth checking what the missing link might be - makes it hard to get the correct insurance quote.
Your help would be appreciated.
Pete

It could have sat waiting to be registered then was registered in 2002.
Check the engine code in the boot or in the service booklet.
-
Don't suppose you fancy the 130 model instead?
Otherwise as Adam suggest - engine code is the only way to check. Think its AGR for the 90bhp model
-
Yeah thanks guys, was thinking that Adam but the date of manufacture says 02 and therefore after the 90's were stopped, I'm a little confused but it's not really a problem.
Rhyso: We have considered all Golf diesels, but low (ish) mileage cars are so hard to find in our price range, and this one happens to be very local to us.
-
Fair enough - just trying to sell mine at the moment so got to take every opportunity!
What's your budget etc?
Got a link to the one you found? We can cast our eagle eye over it :nerd:
-
Cheers. Our budget is (was) around £3500, the one we have found is through a dealer with 77000 on the clock, 5 doors and cruise (good for my wife's commute) - no link as the add has been removed now but i'm just doing some final checks before releasing payment  Sound reasonable? We are in the South West so always pay a little more for cars. What are you selling, is there a add in the classifieds?

No cruise control but and over 100K on the clock but mechanically it needs nothing doing
You can either have it standard or with the remap

Very nice, actually got me thinking there. The car will be covering around 20-25K a year though, so the lower the mileage the better; I think we've found a pretty decent one. Good luck with the sale, I'll be surprised if it doesn't go soon.

Cheers  I hope so too as I want a new car
Let us know how you get on with your purchase :afro:

Give it a few months, she might not notice (it's technically not my car)!!

Ive just paid £5240 for my 53 plate golf gt tdi with 46k on the clock, living down south does hurt the wallet a tad more
But in the end you pay what you want for what you want, if your happy thats all that matters.
Like others said there should be a sticker in the boot (under the boot mat on the left) that says the power in kw and im sure 95kw is 130bhp so it should be the lower one to that lol.

Agree totally - guys I know have travelled 200+ miles for a slightly cheaper car. I guess I prefer the the convenience of buying on my doorstep
Will check out the engine code
