The oil light came on today so I topped it up but now the oil warning light is constantly on even though when I check my oil level it is fine...why is this happening?! Any help would be appreciated!

Check the manual - oil level isn't the only reason it could come on. I think oil quality/pressure might be an issue. If the car's in warranty, take it to VW. Wouldn't want to be driving around if there's a problem wih the car.
What colour is the warning light? Red or yellow? When was the car last serviced with an oil change?

With the two errors you've posted up, sounds to me like you have the beginnings of a control module/ECU fault. I'd get the car to a garage pronto.

Actually the two are related, the oil level sensor isn't very clever. (Assuming its oil level and not oil pressure). It only goes off once you have opened and closed the bonnet. If the bonnet switch is beefed (common problem - it gets gunked up) it doesn't know the bonnet has been closed so the warning is still live. You would think it would compare the oil level but it doesn't. Its a very simple logic system.

Unfortunately the car isnt under warranty anymore . I have the highline display and the oil light flashes up yellow. It was serviced at VW end of 2009.
Ub7rm - is there any self-fix to sort out the bonnet switch or is it a dealer job?

AFAIK its unusually that it just gets gunked up, my first port of call would involve some contact cleaner and wd40. You could always try a good hard slam too ...
As posted the switch is part of the bonnet catch mechanism, find the wire and see if you can identify the plunger.
