Title: induction kit
Post by: Sugar79 on 12 January 2005, 12:58
iam a little worried about fitting another one to my car, has anyone else got one fitted?
i did have a cone filter on there before, but i have a feeling that it damaged my old maf meter.
i have a new maf, but i dont want to put another filter on if its only going to fail the maf again.
Does anyone have any advice?
Thanx

I'm now convinced that a modified standard airbox + filter is the best way to go in terms of both performance and reliability. A bunch of us have discussed and tested different methods at great length, using diagnostic equipment to give real factual results. Basically you want to cut/sand out the ridges in the airbox, and cut a hole in the side into which you feed a bit of pipe which you route through the engine bay as a cold air feed. Thanks to GaryM for the vagcom testing, read more about it here ... >clicky< (http://www.uk-mkivs.net/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=40803)

i have heard that you can modify the box but i didnt know if the results were good or not.
i'll think i might pester my other half about donig it for me lol.
Does it sound any different? because the one thing i liked about my old cone filter was the change in engine tone.

No it pretty much sounds standard, I prefer exhaust rumble to induction roar

i quite like the sound of both lol.
i also heard if you put a few small holes in the top of the box it sounds better.

May sound better, but you'll be sucking in all the hot air that gets trapped under the bonnet, it's a favourite trick of the xr3i chav-brigade. Hot air = low oxygen density = you go slower.

i have a cone filter and im not likin it i dont likie the idea of sukin hot air in so im gona go for a closed air induction kit with a cold air feed just behind the grill in my bumper.
