Hi,
Don't hate because I don't have a GTI.
What I do have though is a 97CL which is in excellent working order and needs freshened up externally and maybe internally. The reason is that money is tight. I did have an urge to buy new which is a big no no due to depreciation and second cars are still highly priced...so a revamp is in order to brighten my spirits.
I will post a photo soon as I still have to take one. All that the car has is original at the moment with a replaced from grill and low front spolier, like here, http://www.designercars.net/membercars/1257.php. It is cherry red. What I like about the MK3 is the overall shape and what I would like to do is keep it simple, not over modify it, besides, I don't have much money.
Any advice would be welcome in making the best of my car on a very small budget. I was initially thinking alloys and low profile tyres. Lowered suspension is not on my list. My main question about that is what wheel/tyre sizes will fit on the current car best. Do you need wheel spacers to bring them out to the rim? (I really don't know what I am talking about).
Are there any good looking 16" alloys that will fit with my current tyres?
If anyone here as any links to simple MK3 mods, please post them here so I can look through them.
Many thanks.

gti lights front and rear will help quite a bit and i changed my bumpers from the black ones to coded at the weekend. that makes a world of difference. Have you painted the bottom of your grill too? That makes a huge difference!!!
Wheel wise 17's are most likely the biggest you'll get away with, but 16's are nice If you decided to drop it later on

clear indicators front and side if you don't have them already.
Colour coded bumpers/ wing mirrors. Debadged grill. Number plates, without the garage name on them. Depends what "look" you're going for but if it's drive to work cruise on Friday then this would be a good place to start.
