Title: mis-fire/fuel issue?
Post by: drewer22 on 07 August 2010, 18:11
I'm having a problem with my 16v golf.  when i'm driving normally, at any speed, all gears and any revs(include on idle)  the engine dies for a split second.  The revs drop and then come straight back up to where they were before.  It seems to happen more often when the car has 1/4 of a tank of petrol.  I've let it run down to the red and it never seems to do it then.  I've done all the usual stuff:- spark plugs, coolant temp sensor, distributor cap, rotor arm, the fuel pump and ecu sensor and also checked the vacuum hoses and nothing has worked yet.

Any ideas?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated

Chris

You say you've checked the fuel pump. There are two, high pressure and low pressure. Have you checked both?

yes check fuel pumps, and make sure the tank vent is clear also.... does sound like fuel issue

Thought it would kangaroo a bit if it was starving of fuel? Tank vent is a good thing to check, check the vacuum of the tank by releasing the petrol cap and see how much resistance is needed to remove it.

Just a few ideas, check crank sensor (wiring and signal with VAG-COM) and relays ECU 30 and fuel pump 167 as a start.

Sorry, i didn't write that post very clearly. I meant that i have changed the fuel pump and ecu relays already.  I've also had it checked for codes and there weren't any. where is the fuel tank vent? and how would i check the fuel pumps?

I'm a bit of an amateur so i need all the help i can get
