Title: Cheap and Nasty piece of $h!7
Post by: H Bomb on 06 August 2010, 18:23
To be quite honest, this serves me right for being a cheap skate, but, anyway...
A couple of months ago i bought a cheap and nasty vr6/gti deep splitter off ebay.  This splitter is now somewhere between glasgow and dumfries. It was a terrible fit, ha the word 'fit' dosn't even deserve to be used. But i did think with the amount of bonding products i used it might have managed to stay on.
So, aye, moral of the story. Probs best to buy geniune parts.  :embarassed:

Anyone else suffered this annoying loss?

or

Anyone else managed to keep one on the car for a significant amount of time?

Ive bought about £100's worth of replicas off ebay with the latest replica being so crap that I had to put it over my kitchen cooker to warm up the plastic and mould it myself to fit it ... that also lasted a week.

HOWEVER, most recently I participated in a group buy on this forum, and bought the best replica ever ... from some polish website, the material is polyutherene (flexible plastic) just like the original and its also an exact, solid fit ... and to this day regardless of the bumps and scrapes, its on my car nice and snug, and looks as good as it did when I first bought it!... guess how much this cost? £20. Same price as the crappy replicas ...

Eurowagen ones are good, unless you are 120mm lowered and go over speedbumps at 50mph.

thing I dont get about replica splitters is why do people bother when you can get a 2nd hand one off ebay for the same or less :P
I got an old splitter of a Laguna for my old mk3 fiesta (RIP), had to cut and remove a bit from the middle, but was flexible rubber and so pulled round and fit perfect. £5 :) The replicas are all £20+ and usually dont fit or look pants!

VW Original Splitters hold their value and are sought after by everybody .... but yeah, as above the Eurowagens in the best replica in the market.

I always done this with splitters. When it snowed at the beginning of this year i went through 2 splitters and 1 number plate in a week i think. Ha!

I ran a cheap ebay one, fitted fine and lasted ages until dad hit a curb, none of the replacments were any good in terms of fit or staying clipped on.
