Title: Wheel Bearing Torque Settings
Post by: Chew22 on 06 August 2010, 13:15
Hey guys, I thought I had a worn out rear wheel bearing (when it was actually the front) so I removed the hub and the nut with the split pin. I did it back up quite tight, but it wasn't tight when I took it off. How is it meant to be?

Is there any Torque settings for it?

Thanks,

Josh

Tighten to you have no play, if you overtighten it you will crush the bearing.

The wheel bearings should be torqued up to 15lbs/sq in to seat the bearing then undone and done up finger tight so that you just eliminate the play. Don't do them up tight or the bearing won't last 5 minutes!

Thanks for the advice guys. I took it to the garage after work, as he did loosen it up, but no damage was done. Phew!
