Soo basically you might remember since iv had my MK3 1.6 CL 95, my oil pressure light has been going off whenever the car warms up (resons why in previous threads)
It's still going off and until i can afford to replace the oil pump (start of next month) i want to get rid off the speaker/buzzer/stupidnoisythingy.
I had a root around last night (took whole dash board off... long) still couldnt find it. Thought i cracked it when i got rid of the buzzer that tells me when my lights are on, turns out its got its own special noise maker
Put dash together and I'm still none the wiser. i know this isn't sensible but i am getting it fixed and if i can get rid of it, it might stop me going mad ha
so if anyone could tell me where it is, how to remove it that would be great
cheers

If you have low oil pressure you're an idiot for driving it. The engine will be slowly killing itself. Expect bottom end knocking followed by complete bearing failure in the near future. A new oil pump is much cheaper than a new engine. Use the bus till you get it fixed.

Engine go BANG!
Why oh why didnt I listen to that stupid buzzer?

+1 madness, oil pump is cheaper than another engine.

theres nothing wrong with the engine though the oil pressure is just a tad low after a while. im not sure if the new oil pump will even make a difference i took it to a garage and they said they dont know what it is, just try a new pump.
im barely driving it but i need it for work which isnt far away just wanted a bit of help
-
Yes but if the oil pressure is low then all your doing by driving it is making what was a small issue a lot bigger.
Bearings etc will not last long, I suspect the damage has already been done.
-
but theres no indication of any damage been done i check it reguly

With respect how are you checking it.
-
iv looked at all the indications of low oil pressure on the web like the knocking etc and theres been nothing like that, even the garage i went to gave the car a full look over and they said it was all ok. Sorry I'm probably just hopefull iv not F***ed it up
-
The only way to know for sure is to hook up an oil pressure gauge and see what the readings are at the oil filter housing at the side of the head. Did the garage do this and if so what were the readings?
Nick

they did check it through a pressure gauge and said it was creeping into low once the engine was fully warmed up but they said it wasn't enough to cause any harm, so im not sure weather the new oil pump will make the difference
-
If that's the case then you maybe OK but if it's low enough to set the buzzer off that's really not good. My MKII is currently off the road as it's dropping pressure when hot and I dare not use it.
A new pump may help as the pick up could be blocked, this has happened to me and a new pump (or cleaning the gauze on the old one) fixed it. This time I'm not sure what my problem is as I haven't dropped the sump off yet.

yeah hopefully everythings fine and the new oil pump will restore it to a good pressure, even once its warmed up. I suspected it was the oil switch at first but even after changing that and a oil, oil filter change it was going off so new oil pump will probably be a good call, im going to take it into the garage tomorrow and get them to check pressure make sure its still ok to drive on just to make sure.
back on topic though any ideas on how to get rid of the beeper?
hope the MKII gets better though

Taking the wires off the senders and wrapping them in electrical tape should sort it out.
Nick

Why remove the beeper, it is telling you that you have a problem.
It may save your engine in the future.
Also if you have oil pressure dropping when hot do not drive it, you have been lucky up to now but you run the risk of damage if you carry on using it.
-
ok cheers guys
your both right i can live without the car for a bit instead of forever.
she is my pride and joy after all :nerd:
Jon
P.S what/where are senders sorry for the nooby questions

There will be a couple of sensors (it's a GTI right?) that set off the buzzer when the pressure drops below a certain level. If you pull the connectors off them and tape them up they wont read the pressure drop and set the buzzer off. Would really need you car spec and engine code to confirm where they are on your car though.

Nah sorry its a 95 MKIII 1.6 CL i know where the oil pressure wires are (inbetween left spark plugs) so i would just take it off an cover in electrical tape? because iv tried taking it off without the tape and it just buzzes allll the time ha

oh I thought this was the funny quotes thread on edition when I read the first post........
-
I can't believe what's in this thread.
If the oil pressure is low, do NOT drive the car.
You don't know if damage is being done, once the engine starts knocking it will be too late.
It might not even be a knackered oil pump, remove the sump and check the oil strainer, it may be partially blocked.

sorry for being new to the car world

That's no problem. Just listen to the advice, it could save your car
-
yeah from now on trust me its being kept warm in my garage :) ha
-
Have you tried removing the sump to check the pickup pipe?
-
i don't really have the tools atm im waiting to go to my cousins (mechanic who sold me the car) so he can put it up on stands, is it worth trying that before forking out for a new pump?
-
Yes, worth a look.
