Title: Import - Grab or Run
Post by: rsreid2000 on 03 August 2010, 15:19
A nice 3 door has appeared in a local garage for £18.995. Its an 09 Plate but it is a import.

It was imported by a company and sold the next day to its "1st" owner but there are 2 owners on the log book the company being the first.

It is no cheaper.
Should I walk away.
Will it effect any re-sale value.
A quick insurance quote and there is no difference in the cost to insure by keying in the registration number.

Any help or advice appreciated

It will be a motorpoint car. usually ok but it will be a slightly higher risk.

Be aware that it will only have a 2 year VW warranty in this country that started when it was first PDIed on the foreign shores.

Nothing inherently wrong with an import, but as already said, you only get 2 years warranty.

If it no cheaper, then I would walk away at this age, unless it is really well specced.

You also won't get recall notices sent (as I found out, to my annoyance....long story!)

Ye. I just bought a UK car from a main dealer for a grand less and got a good trade in to boot. I'd be wary of the import.

I thought it was a bit pricey for an import. It has leather and 18" alloys and thats it.
Only done 5,000 tho. But think I'll stay clear. Thanks for the advice.

Also if if you were to trade it at a later date at a main dealer they most likely wouldn't take it.

Personally I wouldn't buy an import unless it was cheap, but I have seen Import Gtis for sale at main dealers.
