Hiya
As topic - sticky fabric'y things that go behind the mid-level door trim on the GTI
(http://javalins.files.wordpress.com/2010/08/gti_panel_stickies.jpg?w=300&h=225)
Ordered trim fixings from VW today, but didn't see these.

looks like a velcro attatchment that somebody has stuck on there, maybe totake place of a broken clip.
-
Agreed....certainly not something VW would put on the car.
-
disagree - they cover up a hole (manufactured like that) in the panel and presumably are there for water proofing. I will ask VW when I collect othe fittings.
Cheers,
James

If your guy from VW sells you any of these at stealer rates then trust me you WILL have been conned. I have removed the trim before (as has Wayne) and these are not fitted as standard. The little clips are the only standard fixings on trim.
-
+ 1 they are not standard, or if they are they are very rare! I've never come accross them in the cars i've help broke..
Looks rather clean for a car over 12 years old!
-
Had my trim off and never seen anything like that. Just the holes for the plugs to go in
-
interesting....
Any suggestions where to get them from? One has come off, so needs to be replaced to keep it water tight.
>Looks rather clean for a car over 12 years old!
 Trim was removed for clay, polish and wax. Also a previous owner has had it re-sprayed.

They are not factory so god knows where to get them.

Sorry what i meant is, if the fabric was standard on the cars it looks very clean for it's age!
If it's had a respray before then you can be pretty certain it was put on by the previous owner.
-
Definitely NOT standard. And no need for them.
-
Keep it watertight? Is there a big hole in your door?
-
there is a hole in the panel behind the sticky thing. It looks to be a manufactured hole rather than damage.

I just bought some of these to secure my ipod interface behind the dash.

But why would you want too blank them off.
-
to keep the door from filling up with water maybe?

Yes but they are open from the factory, for some reason.
That sticker will not stop the water anyway over time it will peel
-
how very odd. surely rain water will run down the door, into the door then out of the door drain?

Maybe they did it like that so water will stay stuck behind the moulding.
-
Doors have drain holes so dont worry!
