Title: ET40 Alloys
Post by: zdebx on 02 August 2010, 11:40
Got a quick questions reg the alloys.

Found a cheap set of alloys, but the offset is ET40...

Is that a bit too much? The car is lowered 40/20.

No will be fine, just make sure they clear the shock.

may be a little low depending on your suspension setup, width of wheel and the tyres fitted, but worst case cheapo universal 5 or 10mm spacer will probably sort it

The tyres are 195/50/15 and the alloys are 6.5J. The car is not too low (40/20) and at the moment running 16x7.5J Borbets ET20 on 195/45/16 tyres with no probs.

So I'm guessing the 15's should be ok.

I would say, arch clearance will not be the problem as they are further in, as long as they miss the shock you should be fine.

yeah should be fine, the higher the offset the further in they will sit. they'll look totally lost in your arches compared to the 16" ones you have on there now :)

Corrado Speedlines are 6.5"x15", ET38-42 and fit on very low cars with no issues, certainly on 195/50/15 tyres.
You'll be spot on.

I forgot about Corrado offsets, I have Estorils on the Vento, ET 30-something, 195/50/15 tyres and no issues whatsoever.

Thanks for the comments guys :)

Selling the car, so just demodding it, and putting regular stuff to make it easier/cheaper to sell.

Thanks mate, bought a Merc W124 :)

Another thing I forgot to ask...What about if I get some 13" or 14" alloys with massive profile tyres, like 65 or 70?

I'll have arch clearance problems, right?

Good choice  Not sure if 14's fit over GTI brakes to be honest. I'm sure someone else can clarify.

Mine's a 1.8, so the brakes are 256mm ;)
