Title: Dash lights illuminate when key is in ignition
Post by: Goonie on 01 August 2010, 13:49
I changed the ignition switch the other day now the whole dash & number plate lights are on when the
key is in the ignition.

Any help on what has happened would be appreciated.

cant think of any reason why an ign switch swap would have done this, i think you may have some damaged wiringbehind the dash. there is nothing on the ign switch which is connected to the dash lighting, so it sounds like a wire short has happened inside the dash, or a previous owner wired it up like that to be like a MK4 Golf.

That is what i thought i had done some damage to wires by the switch.

Your reply knocked me brain into action and remembered that i saw the wires to the glovebox light were loose.
Before i bought the car there was a break in and the glovebox & radio had been damaged/stolen.
Had a look today and they were touching. I guessed they are for the light in glovebox cos there isn't one there.
It has sorted it out now.

So thanks for your help!

I'm glad too. Its never that easy.

Next on list got to fix drivers window, replace central locking unit
and a new aerial.
