hey guys, ive been playing this idea over in my head a bit, speaking to various people on this forum, and a few i know in 'real life' lol
what do you guys reckon the best route for me to take is??
im playing with the idea of a audi 225 (1.8t) engine conversion in my 8v mk3
or
a vr6 conversion with a remap?
i spoke to a chap today who reckons im better off doing the vr6 conversion as its easier, cheaper, and can get similar results to the 1.8t conversion??
i understand the difficulties and costs of the 1.8t conversion, especially on a 8v, but i think it would be a 4/5 grand better spent than buying say an alfa gtv! as i LOVE my golf shell lol
anyways, any input from anyone who has attempted a vr6 / 1.8t conversion would be soooooo appreciated
cheers all
dan

A Vr6 even with a remap will be around 180bhp, 1.8t is a lighter engine and you can get 200+ bhp easy
1.8t would be my choice.

Nope not worth the hassle, old school now plus supercharger issues.

so thats a no then ........ if it's gnna be solid to find??
plus rather than whack a superchrager on, id rather go for like a bit more of a project, would love to get my teeth into something proper.

Most decent places will do you a 1.8t conversion and supply all the bits and give you warranty for between 4-5k! Piece of mind I guess!
Or you could find a good doner car and do most of it yourself and maybe get it done for around 2k plus! Lots of info here, edition38 and the like.... Or even a google search!
Out of all the times this kinda of thread comes up we must see the results zero pf the time!

VR6 conversion is pointless, because you can BUY a VR6...Unless, you are putting that engine into mk2 Golf or Polo or anything else, that is not easily available.
1.8T all the way ;)
-
VR6 conversion has a point if you have a very solid shell and the VR6s you can buy are rust buckets, but since there are so many VR6s in the UK that shouldn't be much of a concern.
-
1.8T... The VR isn't getting anywhere near 225bhp without a fair bit of work!
As Wayne has said, Lighter, Highly tuneable engine!
Would definitly buy a donor car and attempt this myself if:
a) I knew more
b) Had the time!

Just to repeat what has already been said in the thread, personally I don't see the point of dropping a VR6 into a Mk3 because you could just go and buy one for a lot less hassle. For me it's gotta be the 1.8T

My 1.8t conversion using an AUm engine going from an 8v GTi is looking to cost be under 2k, I think im looking at around 1800-1900. I am getting a few bits on the cheap though :)

omg, thats awesome?!!!
how are you getting this done so cheap, are u doing it yourself or are you gettin parts done by a garage mate??
is that AUm engine only 180 bhp?
