Agreed Mate....looks good and cheap and easy. When car is lowered looks even better though.

no such thing as a 'vr6' splitter... there is the standard splitter (sh!t one) a deep chin splitter (good one) or a u.s one(scene points one)

It is actually a VR6 splitter, because you don't originally get it on any other models, even GTIs.

And it comes on later VR6s only...

Think I am right in saying that it is actually called a deep chin splitter but commonly known as the VR6 splitter. But as ZdebX rightly points out was found on the later VR6 models only.

It came standard on early gti and vr models and the Annie. All later gti and vr6 had the small type so in reality it's not a vr item and is infact just a deep splitter, we all jus call it a vr one for some reason

Wrong.
My 1993 8v had it standard.
My 1996 16v Anniversary has it standard.

Neither are a late VR6.

By standard do you mean the shallow one?
Anniversary's certainly came with the deep spoiler...I remember collecting mine (Aug 1996) and still have the brochure - deep spoiler.

Sorry, forgot about the Anni's, but didn't know that some regular GTI's had them as well  :undecided:

most pointless topic ever!

but I guess I'll add my 2 cents. I dont like the vr splitter on non vr's as its a mod that everyone seems to do, and I've never been one to follow the trends :)

Permission to be a complete pedant/aero geek. Technically none of the aforementioned front valance apendages are actually splitters. A splitter is a horizontal projection from the base of the front air dam, intended to tap the region of high pressure air directly ahead of the vehicle to create downforce. None of the standard VW front air dams work in this way and are thus not splitters.  :nerd:

P.s. Yes I will be fitting a VR6 front dam to my 'Valver when I get around to it.

I though we'd already established that it was not a 'VR6' "front dam", as it was not exlusive to the VR    :lipsrsealed:

Well it's even less of a VR6 splitter then as it's not VR6 specific AND it's not a splitter!!

Very True

Whatever it is, i'm sure everyone agree's with the op that it is an improvement on the standard (on all non Gti/VR6 models (and some of the later Gti's/VR6's)) front splitter dam

Just to add, the front dam actually decreases horse power by 10bhp due to wind resistance. The smaller front dam is only -5bhp. Sod it, i'm taking mine off altogether  :lipsrsealed:

In many ways quite true but I'm afraid it's probably too late; I've got me a degree in Motorsport Engineering so I'm actively looking to be a full time professional geek!

Sadly I'm out of the game at the moment  Got various irons in various fires. Do a bit of aluminium panel beating now and again; scoops, ducts and the like. A mate of mine and I have got the makings of a fairly mental 2.5 N/A Scooby engine project if only we could find a client with the money for it. Also busy building my own race car which will hopefully show people what I can do if they won't take any notice of anything else!
