Getting an odd droning noise coming from the car @ about 60 mph plus....thought was exhaust but had this checked and its fine....wheres next to check....(wondered wheel bearing?) had the rears and the front right done recently but jacked up front left and no wheel wiggle when jacked up?
Any help appriciated!!

Check the rears, might need re-adjusting now they have settled
-
Does the drone go when you depress the clutch?

As I've discovered, the wheel won't necessarily wiggle if the bearing's shot.
It could be that you have worn hubs... like me!
Check out my video on vimeo to see if the noise is similar.

Wheel bearing
-
Yep i would say wheel bearing.
-
+3
-
was my fear to be honest :( any easy way to find out which though!?
-
Raise car on ramp and drive it up to 60, listen to hub with a long screwdriver.
-
Or get someone else to drive, then lie in the back and listen
-
cheers all .....off to look for a long scewdriver ....will update tommorrow
-
Mis read, if its the front wheel bearing then putting it on the ramp and driving it will work using the screw driver if its the rears then you'll need to drive it on the road.
-
Does it only happen at certain revs? Say around 4000 rpm then fade off again as revs go higher?
-
seems to get louder faster i go ....(its on a smoke burner rather than a gti)
-
sounds like rear wheel bearing!
the way i always test em is get to the loudest speed then almost f1 style swerve from left to right, eg, swerve right, weight is on the left rear, gets louder, thats the one, and vice versa!!
-
+20, definately bearing.
-
looks like back right wheel bearing jacked up all 4 and that wheel is not wobbling but does make noise when spinning it.. are they easy to adjust or is it just forked?

It is better to replace it if it is making a noise.
