Voted for the Mk6. What else?

Sorry as much as I like my Mk6 I just had to vote for the Mk2 as I would sell my 6 long before I would ever think about selling the Mk2.

What makes you think people here would automatically vote for the Mk6?! I had to vote Mk2, because it is simply the best GTI and car I have ever driven and I have driven a few cars in my time. I have some perspective on this from the fact that I have owned mint examples of the Mk1, Mk2 8v and 16v, Mk3 8v and VR6, Mk4 1.8T, Mk5 GTI, Ed30 and R32 and drove a Mk6 GTI demonstrator for a whole day last summer when they first came out (I have now ordered one).
If I was to place in order of best to worse, I would say, Mk2 16v ( ), Mk5 GTI/Ed30, Mk1 GTI, Mk6 GTI, Mk2 8v, Mk4 1.8T and finally Mk3 8v...

I drove a red GTi Mk 2 for 3 months and it was truly wonderful. As I did not own it, I have not voted for it.
-
Loved my MK2 16V, the engine just seemed so sweet at the red line, but the brakes were horrendous,

Really? Every one of my Mk216v's (I have owned about 7) had superb brakes.

Maybe what I should have said was brake pedal feel, yes the brakes did stop you but it was like pressing your foot on a sponge.

I did'nt its why the ! was there and the mk4 forum coment, it was more of a coment on the thread title of the linked thread  (Which im sure you know already) I didn't vote for the 6 either. I have owned mk2s and breifly a mk3(sold it quickly and bought an ibiza GTI16V) used a mk4 for a month while the Leon was been fixed (was glad to get back in the leon  ) and owned a mk5.

For me it was a toss up between the ED30 & mk6 very difficult desion to make really , so I chose the MK6 reason being its a better cabin only just though!! Still love the DSG ed30 gear leaver!!

Best thread I've seen in a while, snoopy!
All the young bucks who think MKI & II's are too old and newer ones are 'not real GTIs, unlike the MKIII'.
To$$ers.
-
I can't get over all those votes for the Mk 4

^^^ What are you on about?! People are voting for the MK3!!!!
-
I think the problem is alot of them that are voting are voting based on modified cars rather than oem spec.

Or becuse they cant afford a mk6
-
Basically, it is Mk1, Mk2, Mk5 and Mk6 which are classified as the Golfs and the Golf GTis to have owned or still to own.
Mk3 and Mk4 are the wilderness Golfs. They are cheap and cheerful and hence multiply like a bacterial infection!

Honestly, they do.

MK2 16V and MK6 are the only ones that I really like. Rest I am very selective.

Golf mk 2 G60 was my first love in VW world, mk 6 GTI is the best buy comapact for me ever
love for 2 and 6
-
Even though I have owned a MK1 GTi, MK2 GTi, 2 x MK3 VR6's, a MK4 TDi, currently a MK6 GTi my vote was for the Mk1. The GTi was the 'origonal hot hatch'. It is what the Mk6 was designed around.
-
I've had a Mk1, Mk2's, a Mk4 and a Mk6 and the worst one was the Mk4. But it was okay once the woeful standard suspension was ditched. I voted for the Mk2.
My dirty secret is that I have a Mk3 16V in bits the garage :embarassed:
