Title: urgent help needed. mk3 Golf GTI 2.0 8v starting problems...
Post by: benji_bear69 on 24 July 2010, 19:31
i have a 1993 mk3 Golf GTI 8v and have just fitted my fourth Gearbox... started the car while it was sitting on blocks no problem... started it when it was back on all four wheels... no porblem... then put the front end back on (lights and fan unit, front cross member and bumper) and now car wont start.

it just keys over, sometimes fires, some times back fires through exhaust and intake sides... sometimes just winds over and sometimes starts up and idles but wont do anything else, try to throttle and it just dies.

checked fuel, sparks and all wirings plugs... all there and all working and all connected... checked timing belt and timing. put second hand MAF on because my was a bit iffy anyways... disconnected plug from the back of the ignition barrel and just hot wiring because ignition barrel plays up sometimes... but still nothing :/

any ideas would be much appreciated or pointers... just anything i can try/ disconnect or replace...

cheers, Ben :/

no crank sensor on a 93. check the fuel delivery next, if it idles but cuts out when try to rev suggests not enough fuel, maybe blocked filter? has timing belt jumped a tooth
