Post by: renji on 24 July 2010, 16:33
as above, went out for a drive, come home and parked up the car (fan not on at this point) went bk out to the car a few hours later and the fan was running? fuses are ok, none of the wiring to the fan is damaged....could it be the temp transmitter relay? where can i find it?

The temp guage should be bang on the middle at 90, 70 is the lower marking. If the reading goes up and the fan stays on constantly then the engine is too hot so there may be an air lock in the system due to a leak. Check or mark up the level in the expansion tank when its cold, drive about and then check it again when cold to see if its dropped.

For now if its possible, leave the bonnet open so the heat rises up and out of the engine bay, this will stop the fan going on and draining your battery.

now that you say that, iv had the bonnet up after a drive poking around and when i shut it down i hear a hissin noise of air so this could be the leak? ill have a search around and see what i find , thanks for the help

This is usually to do with the fan after run sytem that trys to keep under bonnet temps down. sensor could be faulty and shorting to earth.
