Am I right in thinking I need all the engine mounts from a 16v GTi for this? I've been told to use a solid front mount but this isnt necessary is it? Wheres a good place to get them from?
cheers
-
venom motorsport do them i think
-
holy crap they cost more than I thought!
cheers mate :P
-
I no mate I'm having the same dilemma with hub adapters
-
You do not need a solid front mount, way too harsh for road use.
-
Roughly how much could a set of mounts be from vw?
Dont think I'm gonna go for sport ones, bit more wonga than im willing to part with
-
what sort of gains would I get from using vibratech mounts over vag ones?
They are quite a bit more expensive, would people reccomend using them for a 1.8t or stick with standard 16v mounts?
-
standard mounts will be best. racing mounts will make your ride way too harsh

lol the oposite of what all the advertising says then :P the vibratech ones all say they will mak the ride smoother with less engine movement :)
Think im gonna go vag anyway, £150+ for a front engine mount is crazy
-
What about gsf? Do they do standerd mounts???
-
yeah they do, so do AVS, ecp and veew services bristol
-
asked around and was told to only use vag ones as the ones from ecp etc are not worth the risk if running a bigger engine, but tbh I trust you guys with these things more than my mates :P
Would some standard mounts from ecp be ok for the job then? I have one just round the corner :)

Should be fine however given the choice I would use genuine

new standard rear mount and standard rear box mount.
solid front mount ftw, engine doesnt move and it improves traction much more than you would expect!
2.0 16v mounts off the mk3 engines (abf) bolt straight to the 1.8t and sit the engine in the bay without any fouling.

Very harsh for road use and you run the risk of breaking something if you have no flex.

enough flex in the rear mounts downpipe has SS flexi in, so should be fine. Not that harsh either tbh, you get a little more vibration in the car, only noticeable at idle tbh. 100% worth it!

Yes but a solid front mount and standard rear's is not a good set up.

works well for me

ecp often sell parts made by lemforder, which is an oem make.

They seem to snap bolts as well.
-
im sticking with the solid mount, suits me and i cant complain.
-
im not gonna use a solid front mount, I dont drive particularly fast and dont do track days so its not needed tbh, plus its a daily driver thats used for more than driving my mates around :P
I also dont wanna run any risks of anything breaking or needing more than normal servicing, thats the reason im not running qpeng :)

 i do over 1000 miles a month i reckon, its my first and only car. Its not uncomfortable and things dont break and i drive it hard quite regularly. dont do a 1.8t conversion if you dont want to service it more often or worry about things going wrong......
sounds like Wayne is doing your conversion for ya! :D
-
oh and just a thought you can always buy both front mounts and see which you like the best, its pretty simple to swap them over. you can pick up a solid mount for like £30.
-
I have a solid front mount in mine and its fine, but we put a solid front mount in my mates car and it caused a bit too much vibration for his liking and so we swapped it back. the funny thing is our cars were almost identical in spec, both were MK2 with abf, both used bonded rubber febi rear + box mounts and the same make solid front. only real difference was he has coilovers and i have good shocks + springs.
the reason we went for solid front mounts is we had 4 branch manifolds, its a good idea to fit them in this case to reduce the chances of the manifold cracking. I dont actually have a 4 branch anymore so will probably swap back to an oem type mount in the near future

tbh its the way I would of gone anyway, I only use aftermarket or non standard stuff if I can se some kind of benefit from using it, and for what I'm gonna be using it for I cant see any :)

Better traction.
