Hi,
Always loved golf and am now going to get one . Looking at the MK3 5dr models, and just want to know the differences between the GTi 8v and TDi versions....

think they put out about the same power mate, and therefore will have similar performance, the main advantage of the tdi will obviously be economy.
Hope this helps a bit!

I think the GTi will have more spec to it as opposed to the TDi, I always thought that the TDi mk3 was just a diesel golf rather than a diesel GTi (if you get what I mean) as it seems the diesels started to get badged as GTi's on the mk4 e.g the PD150's. I will say this though, I once followed a mk3 TDi home one night out of Leeds and I have to say it was very smokey but it couldn't half shift !

Thanks muchly for the info - am now looking for a mk3 diesel tdi - but man are they rare, only one on ebay and its a bit beaten up, and none in autotrader - anyone suggest anywhere else to look?
Cheers! Ali

You could try the classifieds on performance vw and the golf + websites :undecided:

Could try www.fish4.co.uk which has all of the local classified ads from various local papers.
It's better than having to buy all the local rags

Cheers for the tips
Have been looking around lots and I keep seeing people advertising CL TDi and GL TDi's, now I'm pretty sure that these are only TD's, but can I find anywhere online that lets me know the specs of these cars - can anyone help me please - either knowledge of the specs, or somewhere that might say....I would be eternally grateful

Anyone remember seeing Fifth Gear about a year ago when they took a Mk3 TDI and put in a 50Bhp Nitrous kit?
It really moved well, and then they gave it away in a competition.

Just go for the MK4. Makes so much sense and is wickedly FAST..............
