Hi All,
I just got a mk5 GTi with cloth interior. My mate said that people only real want the leather interior on GTi’s.
As you all are GTi people: is it not worth getting cloth intrior?
Also anyone ever changed their seats from cloth to leather?
Thanks loads for your input!
-
personally i perfer the cloth seats, they dont stick in the summer is the main bonus. think its just down to personal opinion mate. clot seats tend to wear much better than leather seats aswell!
-
I like cloth seats too. They don't get sticky in summer or freezing cold in winter, plus you get the GTI tartan pattern  In terms of comfort I've never felt any difference between mk5 cloth and leather.
-
cloth seats for me too - reckon they suit the car better too
-
Half leather is the best of both world in my opinion. The leather looks nicer and being half you don't. Stick to it in the summer as others above have said
btw leather lasts as long if not Longer if it's looked after properly
-
I love my full leather.
Hot sticky seat? That's what air con's for

.......& me & what is it with that horrible beige leather they put in some mk5 GTI's .Edition 30 seats would be my fav choice.

the ED30 seats are very nice
-
Nearly as nice as my Pirelli seats
-
Alcantara and leather would be my choice if I didn't have the Edition 30 seats.
I've had full leather on my last Golf MKV and I can say I'd never go back to full leather again. Sticky and hot in summer and freeeeeezing cold in winter - then you stick the heated seats on and you are sticky again

Well it depends where you are from... in the Middle East people seem to prefer leather and the GTIs out here come in a standard build that includes full leather - you can configure your own of course, with cloth seats but not many people want them. There isn't the association with the Mk1 heritage, part of which is the tartan pattern, for people to prefer it over leather. So it really depends where you are from as people in different countries have different preferences. Myself, I much prefer the cloth tartan seats to the leather and tried to order my Mk6 with cloth seats here in Saudi, but the salesman gave me a confused look and told me it would take longer and cost more as it was a custom build
Oh and by the way, its GTI, not GTi
-
The VW leather isn't as good as some of the other brands - I've some shocking wead on lowish mileage cars. Even on the ED30, the leather wears quite badly IMO, but I prefer it over cloth seats and leather seats too!

The quality of leather has improved significantly on the Mk6 by the way...
-
I have full "Vienna" leather on my MK6 and enjoying it so far. We have had a hot few weeks too but I can't say it has been too sticky! The leather does get very hot though if exposed to the sun.
Too early to say about wearing but the whole point of leatherf or me is how it wears as its a natural material. It should look better as it ages.
Time will tell...

anyone that says cloth hasnt had the leather
i just happen to have both
-
HaHa well put Keano, I think ED30's drivers are a little bias tho
I still need to sort some pics out as well, but it's looking like rain here atm and it would ruin any hard work i put in washing her :undecided:

Me too,Cloth in my 06 GTI and leather in the misus's 05 GTI.......
Not bothered about either to be fair, both have the pluses and minus's.....

The ED30 seats are the best but thats not really practical in a std GTI.
Not really sure what your mates on about saying people only want leather. Personally I prefer the cloth interior as Im not a fan of leather, too hot in the summer, too cold in the winter. I also like the respect the MK5 pays the MK1 GTI with its cloth seats.
-
I would have liked leather, but it wasn't a big deal that my car was cloth - I like the retro cloth.
-
Leather and suede
-
Leather and Alcantara
Corrected for you

Cheers for your views fokes, I pick it up on Friday. (They had to send the alloys off for re-ferbs, hope they are looking slick!)
I did not know the cloth was retro GTI tartan, so thanks for that input as well!!
-
Did you not sit in it / see it / test drive before you bought it ? ? ?
-
yeah, I loved the ride (even though it was very short). I put a deposit down but when I spoke to a mate he was on about GTI are best with leather and DSG, etc. I never had leather before so was fine with it being cloth, but he got me worried about re-sale value. [have to admit I still to drive a DSG but I want manual for the moment].
the one I got is standard, i think only the 18in Alloys are the extras (but thats the main one for me)
really looking forward to it now after reading many posts from people who love their GTIs
-
I had no choice in the matter as the run out models only came with leather which is nice as the tartan pattern gives me a headache.
-
I'd much prefer leather. Although, I appreciate that the cloth is a throwback to the original GTI. I have the cloth in mine as I couldn't for the life of me get find the spec I wanted(2nd). They either had manual and leather or dsg and cloth in the price range I was looking at and I really wanted the DSG.
My brother has the mk 4 gti anniversary edition and I much prefer his seats. The have the tartan look but the seats are black as opposed to the grey and tartan look in my mk5.
Are there any companies that can put leather in the golf using the exact leather from the factory? I know there are quite a few places that offer exact leather for other car models but not seen a place that offers it for VW.

Personally I've always preferred cloth in my cars and I love the GTI fabric, but.....
in between my 2 MK5 GTIs I had a MK1 Audi TT with full leather, and when our 6 year old puked on the seats after I shoe horned him into the back  it was so easy to clean that I vowed I would only have leather in my cars especially with a baby on the way! Thing is the Audi leather is of a much better quality IMO and anyway I couldn't find a 5dr GTI with leather in my price range, so cloth it is - I just hope I don't get any more sick moments, but the TT suspension was pretty stiff!
Oh, and I would have the leather shell backed recaro seats in my car if I could ever find any - only ever seen them in one MK5 GTI years ago at stockport VW. :)
-
I love my cloth recaro's but think the Ed30 half and halfs are awesome, im also starting to appreciate the pirelli seats now.
Here are my seats

Cloth seats for me. I found the leather seats too slippy and temperature hot/cold is not good as peeps have said.
-
Is it weird thar I chose leather for the smell of it? I think I'd stick with cloth next time though.
-
Lol I keep adding liquid leather to mine for the smell and declining the free Air fresher at the hand car wash
If your weird then I'll have to join you !
-
Those half-cloth recaros are stunning

I'm intrigued, liquid leather?
-
Gliptone liquid leather, it's recommended by the detainees over in that section
Excellent leather conditioner :-)
