the sweet sound of twin exhaust pipes??
I bought my GTI with the stadard speaker system and it seems many regulars to this site rate upgrading the system.
Is it really worth upgrading or would it be better to enjoy the sound of your engine?
-
Well here is my take on this.

its all so confusing!
I think I have the RNS 510? is that the touchscreen widescreen with sat nav and stuff?
Does that mean that I could get dynaudio speakers?
By the way....what is a painted rear diffuser?

Are you happy with the sound?
If you are, don't bother.
If you are not, get a better amp and speakers fitted than the Dynaudio system. This might prove a bit more expensive.
I am sticking with the standard speakers as they sound good enough for a 'car' system.
Spend your money on the music!
-
Yes I am happy with the sound, its just a case of being inquisitive with new gadgets although current car is very well specced.
Will probably not invest in Dynaudio speakers. I def have the 510 as I have check on Youtube.
Think my only regret is not getting a sunroof.
You didn't explain what a painted rear diffusers was! (and is it necessary!?)
cheers

The Dynaudio system is a great upgrade for the few £££ they charge from the factory - but to be honest I wouldn't consider retrofitting it. If I was going to fit a new sound system I would go for some aftermarket stuff instead - as the cost of retrofitting a Dynaudio system would be stupid.

Hi. Sorry I forgot!
The rear diffuser is beng painted (hopefully next week and at long last ) the same colour of dark metallic grey as the front spoiler by my ex-Honda dealer.
I really dislike the horrible look and feel of the standard one. I've a spare rear diffuser (slightly damaged), it was not expensive to buy/replace, so what the hell! Will compare well with the beauty of my rear LEDs.
I agree with p3eps that it would probably not be economically viable (in comparison to factory fit price) retro-fitting the Dynaudio. Though, it may possibly still be cheaper than a comparable after-market kit. You'll have to check prices carefully.
Contact mortygt140 (Darren) or SteveP (Steve) if you are still interested in taking this route.

I have Dynaudio and rate it but for me it all depends on the quality of the input. Some of my music is 128bit most 320; to really hear the benifit of the dynaudio you need to make sure the input quality is good.
I had a loner mk6 with a RCD310 and with the right input sounds mega; almost a good.
The upgrade is well worth the money.....

Have a read of this thread.

I thought the dynaudio was a pretty good setup on the Mk6 but after comparing it to the Bose system I have in the otherhalfs new A3 I am not so sure.
I think at higher volumes or bass levels the speakers in the lower part of the front doors can't cope to well (this is where the Audi system with a small sub in the boot excels). But the sound speration is certainly better than the standard RNS/RCD setup IMHO
If I was speccing from new I wouldn't select dynaudio. Instead I would add a blaupunkt THA-555 oem integration amp with a small sub in a stealth box enclosure. I would probably also change the rest of the speakers for something like some Hertz ones.

Well here is my take on this.
http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=161331.0
My take is that thread is a pile of sh!te. There is no difference between the 310 and the 510, both made by blaupunkt. The RNS is different because its not made by blaupunkt, its made by continental.

Yes its worth upgrading, its a far better system than standard.

What I found interesting is that the RCD310 (and possibly RCD510) with standard speakers sounds nearly as good as the RNS510 with Dynaudio. Also, there might be less bass distortion at higher volumes with the standard set-up as there is less lower-end power. O well, I can see my upgrade list on the rise again!
It seems Kev has the perfect system: RCD510 + DAB radio + Dynaudio + TomTom (?).

Kev perfect my arse, he dont have DSG . I love my Dyn-audio better than Dab!!

IMO for yourself am1w, you want to add the MS8 it makes a big difference to the tonality and staging at normal listening levels  (things most people know nothing about). It should be available in the Uk soon.

My point is that they are made by completely different manufacturers, so how can you compare ?
-
I Just find it a shame you cannot have DAB and rear view camera on the RCD510
-
Kevin: I compared the sound quality of the RCD310 vs RNS510 with Darren. The RCD510 was not of interest, available or compared. It probably sounds just as good as the RCD310.

... O, and my RNS now sounds very sweet and looks wonderful.

There was no difference in sound quality between my RCD510 and RNS510
If this is so then:
(1) The RCD310 should sound better than the RCD510 as there is no conceivable way the RNS510 can sound better than the RCD310 with standard speakers and no Dynaudio
(2) You had a substandard RCD510
(3) Your RNS510 is exceptionally good, though I doubt it
(4) You were listening to an MP3 player or a poor recording
(5) You might have a hearing loss
(6) You might not be as fussy or descerning as me
The above are not meant in any way to criticize.
Even Darren heard the difference and he has not got very good hearing in one ear!
-
No criticism taken
Even Darren heard the difference and he has not got very good hearing in one ear!
But didn't you have a defective one and that is why you got it changed?
I don't think mine was defective as when I first got my car I couldn't believe how crystal clear the sound was with no distortion all the way up to at least 3/4 setting (never tried any further as it was too loud). I even remarked on here that I was unsure how Dynaudio could actually improve on it.
I've had 2 RNS510's and both have sounded just as good as the RCD. I know sound is very subjective and I'm far from an audiophile but I do appreciate and think I can tell the difference between a good sound and normal sound.
Maybe both your RNS510's haven't been up to scratch?
(1) The RCD310 should sound better than the RCD510 as there is no conceivable way the RNS510 can sound better than the RCD310 with standard speakers and no Dynaudio
Not sure I understand your logic or evidence in this? What do yo base that on?
To Joe Public, they would think the top of the range head unit should sound better than the bottom of the range. I know and you know that is not always the case though.
-
Hi p3asa:
Yes you are right the first one was probably defective to my ears. There was a difference between the two RNS510s we listened to in my car. I heard the difference, Darren did not.
We listened to Darren's RNS510 in his car. He thought it sounded fine. I did not!
We then compared the best RNS510 to my RCD310 in my car. The RCD310 was amazing. Even Darren heard the difference. He was very surprised. I was not.
In electronics, less is more as far as sound quality is concerned. The RNS510 is doing lots of wonderful things with that large LED screen as does the RCD510. The RCD310 has that small, revolting looking screen. It is simply an FM tuner, CD player and amplifier. So I was not surprised. Also, I have no idea what an RCD510 would sound like and I would therefore be loath to comment on its sound quality.
Throughout, we listened to classical music.
Don't get me wrong. I am perfectly happy with my RNS510* now and it sounds more than good enough to me. I would now rate it as excellent. Besides it is a beauty to behold.
I'd date Angelina Jolie even if she did fart sometimes like a horse!

In electronics, less is more as far as sound quality is concerned.
Depends in what contect, designers look at how things in the design interact with frequency responce, power, noise and distortion, (a few other minor things too but you really have to screw the design up to foobar them enough for a human to hear it  ) all things that are known as the 'linear system'. Extras functions very rare ever cause enough distortion to be able to be heard clearly in an ABX test with the human ear brain system. 'less is more' is a misleading term used by audiophiles who don't often know how the electronics work and a good marketing tool for making people pay more for 'exotic' basic function equipment  I know ive used it in presentations
I would say its simply one unit has a flatish frequency responce were as the others altered in some way.
-
The RNS I have is pretty damn good and the only thing it possibly slightly lacks is 'attack'. I am used to it now and very happy.
Snoopy: Are you going to buy one?
-
Don't know. :undecided:
um probably not yet as I really want DAB and the rear camera.
-
The FM signal is virtually without interference. Best FM I have ever had. You know how fussy I am. Go on buy the lot. The car will be too old before you know it and not worth preening!
-
BTW Snoops: Even in heavy traffic and driving through heavily built-up areas, I have negligible interference on FM. In fact, I hardly notice it. Fabulous FM tuner. You really can buy with confidence.
Lastly, my RNS510 FM has somehow noticably less interference than the RCD310. The rejected RNS510 had a more. Strange.

Well Darren has fitted my RNS510 and there is absolutely no reduction in sound to my RCD510. Darren says this is probably due to the dynaudio but I am thrilled with it , mind you it's a complicated bugger will probably take me until next year to work out how to use it

My bro in law has Bose in his Audi A3 and recently remarked how much better my system sounded. I have RCD510 and standard speakers.
As for the OP, I like some good tunes and the exhaust note of the MK6 is not that much without DSG, even with a remap.
