Title: What is the Best Bluetooth Telephone System?
Post by: cjp64 on 23 July 2010, 15:39
All, I'd be grateful for your views as to which is the best bluetooth telephone system to install in the MK6.

Originally, when I ordered my car in January I specified the VW telephone preparation, which I then found out had compatability issues.  So, I took that out of my spec, only to find that by the time my car was built and collected a couple of weeks ago, VW had addressed those issues.  So, I am assuming (but tell me if I am wrong) that it is now too late to have that system fitted.

I then started looking at Fiscon systems, but it seems from what I have read here that it has compatability problems with the latest generation of phones, I am not clear whether or not it works properly with the car's multi-function steering wheel and I don't like the idea of having the microphone visible.

Don't know much about MoBridge (other than that it seems expensive).

As you can tell, I am getting confused.  Any guidance you could give me would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

CJP64

PS I am loving the new car.

It's 100% possible to retrofit the new Premium 7P6 bluetooth kit and integrate this with the MFD and RNS

This costs around £340 and IMHO is a much better solution than the Fisco

Is this the same as the vw bluetooth telephone preparation at £240, which was the only option I had when I ordered my car in June.

I think this is what I've got and which was fitted by Darren. Seems to work very well with my Blackberry Bold 9700. It's great not to have the microphone sticking out of the 'A' pillar.

Thanks Steve.  This is probably a stupid question, but presumably there would be no difficulty fitting that kit even though I have a reversing camera?

Also, are VW good at updating software?  Or will I find that in a few years the system will not work with new phones (which has happened to me before)?

Lastly, where would I get this fitted?

Thanks for all the help.

Chris

It will work fine on cars with RVCs.

People like myself or Mortygttdi can help with supply/fitting. Where are you based?

Hey guys,

I'm wanting to add bluetooth to my mark VI. I have a RNS 310 install with MFD and multifunction sheering wheel. Could also use some help with supply and fitting if you could assist?

Cheers

Chris.

After getting my speeding ticket, my Fiscon Basic Plus decide to packup as well. Its been a very bad week. Rung up my local dealer at Liverpool, they said it is senseless to retrofit one as the cost will be prohibitive! If you guys think there is no problem fitting the newer and better Bluetooth kit, I just wonder whether it comes with the voice control?

Yes it comes with voice control and bluetooth A2DP audio streamline

Do these retro kits need professional installation or are they plug and play? What exactly do you have to do? :undecided:

No wiring is required (if you buy the plug and play loom), but they do need coding and a fair bit of trim removing.

I am in Hampshire, how would I get this done?

Ebay seems to have loads available

Presumably a car audio garage could fit one if I ordered it?

What is the coding that is referred to

I saw a reference to asking the vw dealer to enable something along the lines of "telephone 77 enabled" My local dealer said they would not do that:-(

There is a business that offers this service called Hazy Days - anyone used them ?

Or should I just get the dealer to fit the VW touch ? Anyone use one of those?

any comments appreciated.

I am in West London so would be able to help, either myself or Mortygttdi can supply these kits and fitting and coding takes around an hour.

SteveP supplied and fitted the VW kit for me.

We had some issues with the kit (none of which were Steve's fault), which Steve was able to identify and rectify.

So, I would definitely recommend going for the VW kit - fitted by Steve.

Hope that helps.

ps Steve, that English female voice on the voice activation is driving me mad.  I think I prefer the American girl!

^^^ Me too

Once the new firmware and maps are out for the RNS I will pop over and update the coding to turn this back to the american voice if you want?

Is this too old or still a possibility?  Got a '10 GTD arriving this week and need to get rns and bt so i'd be in if there's a GB.  Steve, if this is your business feel free to contact me if you can help in some way.  I'm in Surrey and believe you're London?  Also potentially interested in cruise.  The spec difference between the GT and the GTD caught me out here!

I might be interested in a bluetooth retrofit, cruise control and a spot of coding, problem is I'm all the way north in Elgin. I'm assuming that would be a problem

Sorry never got enough interest to do the full GB again.

If anyone is still interested I do currently have 3 kits available, 2 standard kits (7P6 type which is the standard fit for the Mk6) and 1 Premium 3C8 kit which adds full rSap with SMS support and an external aerial.

Steve, just wondered if you could help me out understanding the Bluetooth a little better.

I've got '10 GTi with RNS 310, it's got the UVH Prem kit fitted but does't work with the iPhone.

I've read I need to change the module, however can I still use the already fitted Microphone, also is it possible to get the latest RNS 310 Firmware?

Is much of a change required to move to the RNS 510?

Thanks

Richard

The 6310 was the daddy. There is still a place that refurbs them and sells them "as new" http://www.nokia6310i.co.uk/?gclid=CN2Emp6yvLACFTMetAodKhgqow Now that's a real phone.

6310i what a phone...I think I had mine for about 4 years and charged it twice, that really was a proper phone!

I actually found a Bluetooth Car Kit (http://www.mytrendyphone.co.uk/shop/parrot-minikit-smart-44894p.html) that is compatible with all Bluetooth-enabled smarthpones (at least it says so). Hope this helps.

But that's cack. Most people want the factory intergrated system that can be controlled from the radio touch screen and steering wheel buttons.

I have the RNS510 together with the premium kit ....the Samsung S-III works like a charm and even gives voicemail with the adress of the sender (if in contacts)

i cannot recall that with my Nonia E-72.
